@WDNR Ok so it put me back in the online queue at 11000, though I already had my tag in my cart. How do you make this fair when inevitably that time period will be sold out by the time I’m allowed back in???

@WDNR Am I required to sit here and wait for the issue to be fixed to ensure I get the permit that is in my cart? Or when it goes live again it just becomes first come first serve from that arbitrary point in time?

@WDNR While out on a run today I saw a home with 4 or 5 caged ducks. Ducks that looked like mallards. I live on the Madison isthmus. These ducks should not be imprisoned. They should be free! Please reply. I will gladly provide the address.

@joemikerobs Hi there, we do occasionally hear about muskrats in garages or sheds, but they are more commonly found in boat houses or storage sheds closer to the water.

@WDNR Is it common for these to show up in garages? I live about 300 yards from closest stream and that barely has any water in it.

@paulswansen 6/6 Also, the EPA’s Fire and Smoke Map has started utilizing corrected data from non-regulatory sensors to fill the spatial gaps between regulatory air monitors. The map displays regulatory monitors as larger dots, while the non-regulatory sensors are displayed as smaller dots.

According to Wisconsin DNR there are no Air Quality Monitors in Bayfield county, where are they getting the readings they are providing to the general public?

@paulswansen 5/6 The EPA map calculates AQI using a slightly newer version of the approved algorithm. Third-party applications may not use standard algorithms to calculate their indices. They may call their index AQI even if their algorithms are different, which can create discrepancies.

@paulswansen 4/6 The DNR map (airquality.wi.gov/home/map) displays the AQI based on pollutant concentration data collected from regulatory monitors in Wisconsin using an algorithm defined by EPA. The raw hourly data are transferred to federally supported data sources such as EPA’s AirNow Map.

@paulswansen 3/6 The DNR partners with the Bad River Tribe to operate an air monitoring site in the neighboring Ashland County. Criteria pollutants monitored at this site include ozone and particulate matter. The DNR does not have funding to support monitoring beyond federal requirements.

@spinedoc7 @RandoLand_us Hi there, This is a blue-green algae bloom that has been concentrated near the shore by wind. What lake is this and when was it observed? Blooms like this can be reported to DNRHABS@wisconsin.gov. Please include the name of the lake, county and town, date and any photos.

EPA - Environmental Justice Government-to-Government (EJG2G) Program (2024) Recipient: Wisconsin Department Of Natural Resources Amount: $1,000,000 Purpose: the agreement provides funding to Wisconsin department of natural resources to tailor outreach and education on water quality, fish consumption, and related health issues. Community health workers (CHWs), conducting outreach and education on the ground level within the community, will also facilitate increased private well water testing among these communities. Project results and outcome analysis will be used to develop an effective model for community-based outreach that can be applied statewide and across DNR programs to improve public information sharing and public involvement in decision-making and services. Activities: the activities include training of community health workers; development of outreach materials; educational outreach and technical assistance to disproportionately impacted communities; as well as outreach events, forums and other dialogue projects. Subrecipient: one subaward will be given to Healthy Opportunities for Latin Americans (HOLA), who will act as a liaison to the DNR to support individuals through technical assistance of well testing and identifying funding sources for well replacement/treatment. Another project partner and subawardee, the Wisconsin Institute for Public Policy and Service (WIPPS), will facilitate community forums for open dialogue on clean water and public health and help train community health workers. WIPPS will provide research, analysis, and reporting of community feedback as well as project continuous improvement monitoring, to inform DNR services and practices.
