Gertrud Arndt — Bauhaus Carpets, 1924. When Gertrud Arndt arrived at the Bauhaus in 1923, she wanted to study architecture. Like many women at the time, she was directed into the weaving workshop. What followed were two remarkable carpets that reflect the Bauhaus idea of structure, rhythm and geometric clarity. Built from carefully arranged squares and subtle color contrasts, these textiles translate architectural thinking into woven form. Arndt later became known for her striking photographic self-portraits in Dessau — yet her Bauhaus carpets remain powerful examples of early modern textile design.
