No other EU country has a lower share of renewables in heating/cooling than Ireland. Gas, either directly or via electric heating, does most of the warming. Despite this, Ireland is one of the few countries with no gas storage. Imported gas, via a single undersea connection from Scotland, keeps homes warm, and the lights on. Staggering that a state lives with such vulnerability, particularly at a time of hostile powers sending vessels to map these vulnerabilities.
