𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗼 Health workers are the backbone of every health system, and their safety, dignity, and protection are essential for delivering quality care. This week, the World Health Organization (WHO) is supporting the Ministry of Health in Lesotho to integrate Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment (PSEAH) into the country’s new Safety and Protection Guideline for Health Workers. During the working session, the team identified key risks faced by health workers, reviewed existing gaps, and proposed practical measures to strengthen accountability and safeguard staff. These include: ✅ Clear PRSEAH reporting and feedback mechanisms ✅ A strengthened Code of Conduct ✅ Disciplinary measures for violations ✅ Alignment with global PRSEAH standards Retselisitsoe Makhetha, Quality Assurance Manager for Patient Safety at the Ministry of Health, emphasized: “While the previous guideline focused primarily on preventive measures for COVID 19, the new guideline takes a broader approach, encompassing Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment (PSEAH), mental health, occupational safety, HRH, and other critical areas to safeguard health workers.” WHO remains committed to supporting the Ministry of Health in building a stronger, safer, and more accountable health workforce. This collaboration represents a significant achievement in ensuring that health workers in Lesotho can carry out their vital roles in environments that are safe, respectful, and fully protected from exploitation, abuse, and harassment. #HealthForAll

WHO recommends the use of rapid tests as the initial diagnostic test in all persons with signs and symptoms of tuberculosis as they have high diagnostic accuracy. They can also lead to major improvements in the early detection of TB and drug-resistant TB. Check with your health provider about WHO-recommended rapid tests such as Xpert MTB/RIF Ultra and Truenat assays. Yes, we can #EndTB with quick diagnosis and early treatment! #WorldTBDay

𝗟𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿-𝘁𝗼-𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗛𝗜𝗩, 𝘀𝘆𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀 𝗕 This week @WHO & other partners supported Ministry of Health to update Lesotho’s national guidelines for the elimination of mother-to-child transmission (EMTCT) of HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B, in line with global guidance and framework. This significant development follows a situational analysis conducted in 2024, which revealed programmatic gaps that could slow progress toward meeting global elimination targets. In response, stakeholders met in Leribe district from the 9th to 13 March to review and update the guidelines to ensure that mothers and infants across the country receive the highest standard of care. The revised EMTCT guidelines bring several key improvements. They align with the latest WHO recommendations, integrate updated scientific evidence, and provide clearer clinical protocols for preventing transmission during pregnancy, delivery, and breastfeeding. The elimination of vertical transmission of HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B remains a national priority within Lesotho’s broader commitments to improving the health and well-being of women, newborns, children, and adolescents. The guidelines are designed to provide evidence-based guidance to healthcare workers and community health responders as they implement high-impact interventions under the national sexual, reproductive, maternal, neonatal, child, and adolescent health and nutrition (SRMNCAH-N) strategic vision. #HealthForAll

Women’s health is far more than pregnancy or childbirth. It’s about strength, resilience, and care throughout life. Too often, pain and mental health challenges are not taken seriously. Bodies change, but health care rarely keep up. Age, ability, background, and income all affect health. One-size-fits-all solutions don’t work. Women’s health is a lifelong commitment. It’s time to listen and act. #ForAllWomenAndGirls #InternationalWomensDay
