Measles cases in the European Region dropped by nearly 75% in 2025 compared with 2024. Yet the risk of outbreaks remains - more than 200,000 people in our Region have had measles in the past three years. These figures are based on preliminary 2025 surveillance reports from 53 Member States across Europe and Central Asia. While vaccination and outbreak response efforts have contributed to this decline, measles continues to spread - immunity gaps remain, and cases have already been detected in 2026. To prevent new outbreaks, countries need to reach 95% vaccination coverage in every community, close immunity gaps across all ages, strengthen surveillance and act quickly when cases appear, while ensuring people have access to and rely on verified health information. Eliminating measles is essential for national and regional health security. Read more in our joint press release with @UNICEF_ECA: bit.ly/4a9ufim
