CORRECTION: the dancing doublet with silver-gilt ‘pommes d’oringe, welkes, cokles et muscles’ turns out to have belonged to 19-year-old Roger, Earl of March. Dammit. Maybe it should’ve been a clue that dancing in a spangly outfit always sounded too much fun to be Richard…

At Christmas 1393 Richard II acquired a white satin 'dauncyng doublet' embroidered with orange trees and a hundred oranges, and a loose white satin jacket embroidered with whelks, mussels and cockles, all in silver and gold.
