Born today in 1740, Jeanne Baret accompanied disguised herself as a man to circumnavigate the globe with Bougainville's voyage. They collected over 6000 plant specimens, one of which is held at @NYBG.

Her partner Philibert Commerson named the genus Baretia for her, but died before publishing. Happy birthday Jeanne🎉🎉🌴
