An area of snow will overspread southern Appalachia by Saturday morning and expand across most of VA, NC, SC and eastern GA on Saturday. This is mostly a SNOW situation for all involved. Expect HAZARDOUS TRAVEL even with light to moderate snow. A coastal low pressure will explode off the NC coast by Sunday morning where the OBX and southeast VA could experience BLIZZARD conditions before the storm pulls away later that day. Accumulating snow is also expected up the i95 corridor points east but amounts will be lighter than VA, NC and MA. COASTAL FLOODING potential is also high with this storm. House loss watch is high again for the fragile parts of the OBX. Southeastern New England could be impacted as well, but confidence there is still highest on the Cape for BLIZZ/COASTAL FLOODING for later Saturday and Sunday. Below the EURO and GFS operational runs from 00z last night valid for Sunday 7am (12z). All of this followed by BITTER COLD once again.

This graphic is a NWS experimental forecast for JUST ICE ACCREATION and excludes sleet. Again its a forecast and a great look at where prolonged issues and catastrophic power loss could be if it verifies. Forecast only through 7pm Sunday.

Ok, back to the storm at hand... Still on track for high impact Plains to East Coast crippler with ICE, SNOW and BITTER COLD Friday through Monday. Models have trended warmer which changes precip types in Nashville, Atlanta, DC and many others, but does not change the fact that the storm remains dangerous. Sleet could mix up into NYC now. ICE ACCRETION numbers are still insane with areas that will see over an inch of ice accretion (freezing rain). There is still a chance for sleet in some of this, but this NOAA product below (only out through SAT 7PM) shows best probabilities for a just FREEZING RAIN amounts. The event goes beyond this forecast map so this is not total ice and doesn't count the amounts we will see in VA,NC,SC, etc because that goes beyond this products period. I included a "most likely" and a "high end" map. This, imo, represents the best shot at long term power loss. Again exacta numbers in a storm like this can change and will, but we are getting to a point in the forecast that it's time to get firmer with the details for everyone's sake This will be a very DANGEROUS storm for millions. I hope you are ready.
