@Austen AFAIK the original Square (then called Squirrel) stack was Python, built on Google App Engine (yes - proto-cloud!), with @jack contributing code. Original API was even taking (but erroring) requests as recently as 2014 (Square founded 2009): twitter.com/wmcc_/status/4…

I like to imagine that Jack hasn’t had any time to program since he started Twitter. Imagine jumping from trying to make 2006 Ruby on Rails performant and jumping directly into 2021 Rust.

@Rich_Harris @united Neither @OTGexp (who operates the card reader) nor @United charge for electricity at @EWRairport. I used such a plug for free this week! The card reader is for purchases made at the adjacent PLAY/DRINK/EAT iPads, which are annoying in their own way [+ cropped out of orig pic].

Fair play to the people at @united who realized you can charge your customers for electricity - this is impressively fucked up even by your standards

@wesyang The problem is that different uses of laptop consume wildly different amounts of power. You should be shaming power-draining apps+websites. Not shaming laptop manufacturers.

Every product should have an option to pay extra to get it without a logo.

@jeeyoungk Same. My theory here: 1) I use them just too infrequently to retain + 2) I rely too much on copy/paste/cmd history when I do use them. Good use case for @exec_prog, which schedules review of basic lang concepts for when it thinks you’ll forget them. (Your langs not yet avail.)

There are languages (bash if statements, jq, SQL windowing functions) that I just cannot remember how they work and need to Google whenever I use them.

@gokulr In capitalist Hong Kong Feb 15, I saw retailers selling hand sanitizer at ~3x markup (80 HKD/10.50 USD for 250 mL). Box of masks also available for 32 USD. It was drawing curious crowds because nowhere else had the stuff in stock. #SupplyAndDemand

Main developments: 1)Uber contends that Waymo is hypocritical for calling out Uber’s use of ephemeral messaging when Google uses GChat/Hangouts OTR mode, and Uber wants to question ex-Googlers now at Uber about Google policy, to support this point. Waymo objects, Allsup overrules

At #WaymovUber, talk of terabytes of messages on “the server” at Uber. Apparently “the cloud” hasn’t arrived yet. Get on the buzzword train, y’all.
