I’ve been trying to focus on ai tools supporting my core tasks and work. Like I will still write my algorithms, but I used to have to write a bunch of scripts to evaluate my algorithms. Those scripts took up most of my time and wasnt central to my work. So now ai helps. It’s a tool. Knowing what the right tool is for the job and how to be effective with it is important and the hard part for any programmer/engineer.

... myself to do some "mental weight lifting" so the brain doesn't atrophy when relying too much on the AI. How do y'all handle that?

Ok, confession time: I use agentic coding *all the time* and *every day*. And have been doing so for many months. I am *terrified* of skill deterioration on my side. I see the studies, I can feel it myself. The agents make me much more productive, but I feel I need to force...

Nah, it’s actually pretty hard to fully saturate a 1GBPS all of the time. I got 1GBPS at home and have never had an issue. Plover.digital has 3 racks full of Colo customers and VMs with a 10GBPS links and we are typically using under 100MBPS. To fully use a 1GBPS is a lot more than people think.

@_vai0 Nah I get the same feeling. I think ai is still in the era of fuck around. But the real fun begins when we get to the find out era.

Am I delusional or are most AI startups just RAG pipelines with a chat interface sold as a product?

If your a small hardware company you should be taking notes from egg timer rocketry - Their website has no buy button - you email them what you want and they send you a PayPal invoice - it was at my door within a week - I am overall very happy with this arrangement

As much as possible!!! Its about understanding and managing risks. Your personal site might be able to handle an hour of downtime. But a production database probably can't go down. Self-host what you can, save the cloud for high risk mission critical items. I really believe ownership and responsibility for your stuff is important and creates a better product/experience!

This is the way! I really believe that you gotta spread out the risk where it matters. Who cares if your personal site goes out for an hour. But you might want to be able to keep a production database alive 24/7 Different solutions for different problems. It also helps a lot in managing costs based on risk!

@Hamzeml Almost Everything. Self ownership and extreme responsibility are great things, and the cloud should just be the stuff that truly needs extreme uptime and volume at any cost.

@_vai0 Taking a look at it a bit closer, speeds and feeds. Looks like some areas have more then others. Its really hard to get the feel for how much and how fast. but yeah its all practice.
