W. Jetz & @DirkNKarger presented their work on “Mountain Thermal Belts in a Changing #Climate.” Using #CHELSA climate data on structuring the elevation belts of global mountains by thermal belts anchored to the #alpine tree line has led to a new high-resolution (90m) dataset.⛰️🛰️

This year's social-science day of the WSL research unit “Land Change Science” with hiking, guided forest tour near #Basel, poster presentations, dinner & lots of rain.☔️The forester showed that #beech has been dying back massively due to increased frequency & severity of drought.

We are very happy & proud to announce that our lab member Yi Liu @LiuYi_eco has successfully defended his dissertation on "Global drivers of mountain plant biodiversity". 🏔️🥳🎓 We wish him all the best for his next chapter in life & are excited to see more of his future work.🚀

DME members organized and attended the workshop "Deep-Learning Applications in Macroecology" hosted by InfoFlora in the botanical garden in Geneva where researchers exchanged findings and ideas on remote sensing foundational models, deep species distribution and habitat models.🌱

The DME group went on one of the most beautiful panoramic hikes in Switzerland from Melchsee-Frutt to Trübsee with fantastic views of the Alps, floral highlights and passing four mesmerizing mountain lakes.🏔☀ A memorable day filled with fun, laughter and team spirit.❤️
