Where does California’s imported crude oil come from? The State’s Energy Commission provides the breakdown: energy.ca.gov/data-reports/e… Also, as a reminder: it doesn’t need to be this way. We can produce WAY MORE of our own crude oil here in California.

SF Chronicle Reporter Rachel Swan dives into Bay Area impacts of higher gas prices given the fact that about 87% of commuters in the region drive to work. “Of nine drivers who spoke to the Chronicle, only one expressed willingness to change his habits.” … “For me, it’s just not an option,” said Leo Sanchez of Concord, hooking a fuel nozzle into his white Chevrolet pick-up truck. Drivers already feeling the impacts of global events at the pump, should also be concerned about new proposed cap and invest regulations by the California Air Resources Board that will further punish household budgets. At a time when affordability remains a central concern for the majority of drivers, advancing a policy that knowingly increases fuel costs and worsens supply volatility is deeply troubling. … sfchronicle.com/bayarea/articl… via @sfchronicle

We need more people focusing on the strategic value of having in-state refinery capacity to act as a buffer against jet fuel shortages. Read this article and you can connect the dots. Refiners can react pretty quickly to make more jet (at the expense of diesel), so having that capacity and flexibility in CA could buffer against real shortages to fuel our state’s air defenses. As CA becomes more dependent on long-line import supplies, such nimbleness to have more in-state jet production diminishes. Policymakers and drivers need to fully understand why we need to preserve in-state refining capacity! Read this story, it’s worth the time. urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https…

Nevada is completely vulnerable to California’s energy policies, and residents are paying the price tag for California’s costly regulations. I’m proud to see Governor Lombardo addressing CARB’s concerning amendments with his letter. bloximages.newyork1.vip.townnews.com/2news.com/cont…

Also spoke with the new CEO and President of @OfficialWSPA Jodie Muller, @WSPAPrez "It should be realistic to keep what we have, to look at these policies, make adjustments where needed, put proposals forward that actually continue to support our supply being from this state. The demand isn't going down demonstratively. So, we have to continue to supply that marketplace, and we should not be continuing to rely upon outside sources." When it comes to keeping the power on, there is no trade-off. Energy policies do not work if they require unrealistic, dangerous trade-offs for our communities. We need to be talking about the taxes and fees. If you are not following @jenny_huh, you should.

Since 2018, California policies have handicapped in-state crude production and refining, making the Western states’ energy supply increasingly reliant on imports. Foreign sources are prone to supply disruptions, like the crisis currently unfolding in the Middle East, causing supply volatility and price increases. California has a strong refining capacity but is being muzzled by strict regulations making the state’s industry unprofitable. In-state refining will always be more sustainable, affordable, and reliable than foreign imports.

California has more oil than most places on Earth, but it’s running out.  Gas hits $4.65 a gallon. Refineries close. The state now “imports” fuel via the Bahamas to dodge a 1920 law.  The Golden State is a perfect example of energy mismanagement.

Chevron is warning an upcoming vote by California regulators could be the final straw that collapses the oil industry in the state. "If we close and we move out, we don't come back," exec Andy Walz told me. "I do think we should declare an emergency in the state of California."

California wanted to be a leader, but now we really are at a point where we’re seeing these companies go away and refineries close in California. Demand isn’t going down demonstratively and California is a huge market for gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel, but these companies are leaving because it’s no longer profitable to operate here. This industry is going to be a big part of our energy scenario for years to come, so we have to get it right. If California truly wants to be a leader, whether that’s nationally or internationally, they must get these policies right. Really appreciate the honest conversation @tabpaigewilson. Proud and honored to be considered a leader of this industry. The news is everywhere: global unrest is impacting the nation’s gasoline supply and driving up energy prices. @BorensteinS pointed out over the weekend that “every dollar per barrel increase in the price of oil feeds through 2-and-half-cent per gallon.” That’s a significant increase for the average consumer, but it pales in comparison to the costs California drivers pay compared to the rest of the country. That’s because our state’s policymakers continue to put up roadblocks to in-state crude production and refining, and we already pay an additional $1.30 per gallon in higher taxes and the cost of environmental mandates. All these policies increase energy costs for consumers - no matter what’s happening in the Middle East. If we’re worried about an oil supply disruption, then we need to acknowledge how California’s policies have made us more vulnerable. A 25-cent increase is only a fraction of the $1.30/gallon Californians are required to regularly spend.  We update every month these facts and the next one will be posted soon. NEW: Chevron sent a letter to Gov. @GavinNewsom @CAgovernor and leaders of the legislature, CA Air Resources Board, and CA Energy Commission, expressing concerns over CA @AirResources Board’s proposed Cap-and-Invest regulation, arguing it could significantly increase costs on refiners in California. In short, Cap-and-Invest is a climate policy that sets a limit (CAP) on the total pollution allowed in the state. It basically forces large polluters to pay for their emissions, with the money generated going toward clean energy and community projects (INVEST). Supporters say the program is crucial to protect the environment, reduce pollution, and work toward a sustainable future. But oil and energy companies are concerned the program’s new proposed regulations will increase costs on refiners and hurt the state’s energy economy. In the letter, Andy Walz, Chevron’s president of downstream, midstream, and chemicals wrote “the proposed regulation will cripple the survivability of the state’s remaining refineries.” In previous one-on-one interviews I conducted with Walz, he expressed concerns about the future of oil companies in California. He concludes the letter, warning the proposed regulation “will cause irreversible harm to California’s economy and energy security and broader vital American interests.” Reaching out to CA Governor’s for a response.

California is vulnerable to global events like these because leaders have chosen policies that drive CA refining and production out instead of depending on in-state energy. We can protect consumers from disruptions if we allow Californians to produce and refine oil here at home instead of increasingly relying on imports. The state must protect its remaining infrastructure or become more vulnerable to global uncertainty.

Every $10 increase on barrels of oil is about 24 cents at the pump. All because of Trump’s unfunded and unpopular war with Iran. We all will pay the price of Trump’s chaos
