The difference between the Amerindians descended from the founders of the Clovis culture and the Paleo-Eskimo mestizos is brutal, greater than that between Europeans and Levantine or Middle Eastern populations. If Amerindians did not share a common ancestor, they would be two completely distinct human populations.

Ironically, a Hapa is genetically closer to a whites than a 50/50 Mexican mestizo is.

Genetically, Native Americans are extremely close to one another across both ends of the continent and even in isolated populations. However, they are quite distant genetically from Asian populations, despite their origin in migrations from Asia thousands of years ago.

@FCMart1n WHG were the original Europeans. It’s because of them that Modern Europeans cluster together on a PCA. WHG descend from the European Gravettians…

A alternancia gráfica é sospeitosa.

Last week I posted about the legacy of WHG ancestry in modern British genomes. But what about the Neolithic transition? We carry about 50% 'Anatolian farmer' ancestry, but it's not evenly distributed across the genome, and it tells an equally striking story. A 🧵:

WHG ancestry in British genomes is today non-randomly distributed: retained where it conferred advantage, replaced where later adaptations dominated. It's where we get our blue eyes from, among other things. The Mesolithic is still with us in our DNA, 10,000 years later.

Modern British people carry meaningful levels (~10%) of Western Hunter-Gatherer (WHG) ancestry — the Mesolithic foragers present before farming arrived. We can map which parts of their genome have been selectively retained or replaced. A 🧵:
