What to make of the quiet before the storm. The 4 top teams in the Big South (HPU, Winthrop, Radford, UNCA) all are showing no transfers out (aside from a Winthrop walk-on player). Does this mean retention? Negotiation? Coaches waiting for new jobs to take players with?

That was my version of the '30 wins' argument. Having a 0 in the conference loss column looks more impressive than a 1 (without context).

I would personally argue that Winthrop’s being undefeated in conference was more a product of a weak big south that had 3 15 win teams. But who can say fr?

Just can't make claims about being the best team in league history without expecting that to get challenged. HPU was better than WU this yr, I can't argue with that. and is one of the best in league history. I can't argue with that either. Amazing season.

But I just can't let the 'best team in Big South history' claim sit out there without letting people know what 07 Winthrop did. HPU impressed me with how they played in the NCAAs, though. Incredible showing.

@StevenBeckTO @HighPointHoops @HPUMBB @BigSouthSports WU had the 3rd hardest non conf schedule in the nation per KenPom in 07. HPU had the 356th this yr. I realize games were tough to get. But winning 31 gms against that schedule is much easier than 29 gms against the schedule WU played in 07. HPU is 86th in KenPom. 07 WU was 51st.

@StevenBeckTO @HighPointHoops @HPUMBB @BigSouthSports Different era and rules for # of games you could play. WU played two fewer regular season games. If that's your metric for being 'better', then I'm not sure how we can have a legit debate over this.

But 2007 Winthrop also got to the 2nd round of the NCAAs, but got an 11 seed, went unbeaten in Big South play, and got ranked in the AP Poll.

I'll put my feelings about High Point aside for a second to tip my cap to Rob Martin. That was an incredible performance.

@HPUFan Winthrop lost as a 12 seed in 2021 vs Villanova.

And the 2nd note is the Big South is a perfect 2-0 when seeded 12 or higher in the Round of 64. The Big South is bad, but when given the chance....

Two more notes: this was HPU's first win over a power conference opponent in men's basketball, regardless of when in the season it was, unless you count beating Wake back when it was in Wake County and in the SoCon. This avenges that time HPU gave away a game at NCSU a decade ago

High Point actually did it. How about that.

@tsnmike Exactly. Making the tournament should be based on what you did during the season. You earn a bid, you earn it. Even if you aren't at full strength once the tournament comes around.

No, the committee should stop factoring injuries into selection or seeding.

Miami, USF, VCU, TCU. Too easy and I can’t wait to be wrong on all of them lol
