Actual story: German (and American) rocket scientists knew that requiring the massive bells of the Apollo was a non-starter. The machine to make them would cost millions that nobody would spend. One redneck machinist* said 'Gimme a weekend.' Started after everybody left on Friday. Took a big chunk of the material, got out some string and milling equipment... Monday morning they walked in and there was a perfect massive bell ring, perfectly circular, the exact size, complete. He said 'I'm going home' and went home and slept all day. The space program was saved repeatedly by some redneck saying "I got an idea." Yes, it had to have the rocket scientists. But every time they were stumped, or over engineered things, some smart redneck would come up with the practical answer. *If you've ever seen Rocket City Rednecks or Skinwalker Ranch, the 'redneck machinist' was Travis Taylor's father. His father (Travis' grandfather) was one of Von Braun's guards when the germans were still under arrest.

Some people still seriously believe the US could do a D-Day style invasion of Iran. That, of course, is ridiculous. Other people believe the US can insert multiple special forces groups into Iran to snatch their uranium. That, of course, is ridiculous, too.
Will Schryver@imetatronink

You think D-Day in Normandy in 1944 is a logical analogue of an invasion of Iran in 2026? 🤦‍♂️ In my considered opinion, D-Day 1944 is one of the Top 5 most bumbled operations in US military history — and there is stiff competition. It was only by sheer luck and the inherent weakness of the German force positioned there that the Americans weren't slaughtered. In the 21st century, any major ground assault using existing American combined arms maneuver doctrine would be torn to shreds. Major airborne and amphibious operations are absurdly obsolescent against anyone with even a modest abundance of relatively competent heavy firepower. There is no potential ground force on the planet willing, ready, and able to invade Iran. If the US assembled every active combat division in the US Army and US Marine Corps, it would amount to 175,000 troops, of whom only a minor fraction would be combat effectives. And even if they could magically cobble together an army of 500,000 soldiers, THEY WOULD HAVE NO WAY TO DELIVER, EQUIP, AND SUSTAIN IT. IT IS A PHYSICAL IMPOSSIBILITY. There will be no ground invasion of Iran by the United States or anyone else. And I challenge anyone who believes otherwise to describe for us a credible order of battle, an operational agenda, and a realistic description of the logistical sustainment plan. Oh, and make sure to consider in your calculations the fact that, from the moment you begin to concentrate a force in the vicinity of your intended point of attack, you will come under punishing and persistent fire. Good luck. #NoEasyWarsLeftToFight

The filing deadline is seek elected office in Colorado was March 18 so no Republican can challenge Boebert.

President Trump criticizes Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) for endorsing Thomas Massie in #KY04. Calls her “weak minded” and asks if anyone is interested in running against her. Trump: “You remember Lauren moved to the District when it became obvious that she couldn't win in her original Congressional District (The Third!) - A Carpetbagger, indeed! Boebert is campaigning for the Worst "Republican" Congressman in the History of our Country, Thomas Massie, of the Great Commonwealth of Kentucky.”

@eigenrobot that's because the pregnant women schlep up into the US to give birth, artificially inflating US birthrates slightly. same with Puerto Rico which has an even lower birth rate than Mexico.

A few thoughts: First, this is why I love working for DW. I've been at the company from year one. We aren't perfect. We swing big and that inevitably involves some big misses, but also some massive hits. Regardless of the ups & downs, as @BenShapiro lays out here, the core mission of the company has always been the same: promoting "truth & virtue & freedom." Conservatism is less of an ideology than it is simply a commitment to looking reality in the face & being honest about it, and then trying to do some good based on that reality. I know firsthand that’s our goal every day on @MorningWire. Again, we don't always do this perfectly, but we do it better than most of the outlets out there. Second, the slings & arrows Ben & DW face are a product of DW having become, as Ben puts it, an American institution to be reckoned with. And he’s right: those on the Left & Horseshoe Right obsessed with taking this institution down are actually not fighting against us, but against our conservative core mission. But I'll bet on the conservative side every time because reality -- not what people want to be true, or dreamed to be true, or grievance conspiracism & calculated grifting -- remains undefeated. As for our critics' claims of our imminent collapse: 6th largest podcast publisher on the planet with a reach of 41 million a month from just 11 shows. Hopefully we’ll keep “failing” like this for another decade.

THIS GUY BUILT AN ENTIRE WIKIPEDIA THAT IS 100% AI HALLUCINATIONS AND IT'S OPEN SOURCE ON GITHUB it's called Halupedia. nothing on the site existed before you clicked. every article was generated the second you arrived. the site has one rule: the universe only exists when you visit it. it looks exactly like wikipedia. same fonts. same layout. same scholarly citations. same "stumble" button for random articles. the only difference is none of it is real. here are some actual articles currently in the encyclopedia: > the great pigeon census of 1887 > the ministry of slightly wrong maps > chaldic arithmetic — a branch of mathematics where subtraction is forbidden > armund the river mapper — a cartographer who mapped 14,000 leagues of river without leaving his chair > the society for the prevention of unnecessary tuesdays every article page also tells you how many people are reading it right now. it says: "you alone are consulting this folio at present." the creator's own tagline for the site is the most unhinged sentence i've read this year: "an encyclopedia of a universe that does not exist until you visit it" the entire backend is a single open source repo called vibeserver. one guy. one description on github: "a little webserver making things up just in time." we built the largest knowledge base in human history and the very first thing a guy did with it was make a hallucinated mirror universe and put it on the open web. the internet is healing.
