Across the Amboseli–Chyulu sub-landscape, interventions to protect both wildlife and community livelihoods are showing results.
WWF-Kenya has completed its latest rollout of predator deterrent lights, installing 272 new units and bringing the cumulative total to 543 lights across the landscape, with support from the Michael Otto Foundation for Sustainability.
The latest intervention now directly benefits 923 people, with 2,866 goats and sheep and 1,137 cattle protected from nighttime predation.
The installations were prioritized in response to recent livestock depredation incidents reported over the past few months, which affected cattle, goats, and sheep in homesteads (bomas).
The expanded deployment of predator deterrent lights is expected to reduce nighttime livestock predation, strengthen household-level livestock security, and support long-term human–wildlife coexistence across the landscape.
