Attending Sue Fletcher-Watson's keynote #AEC25 had some fantastic key take-home messages. 1) We need diverse individuals in our communities to learn from each other. 2) Neurodiversity is for everyone, it's not them vs us. 3) You are not less valuable in society if you need help.

First day at the Autism Europe International Congress #aec2025 conference in Dublin, Ireland Prepping for today’s symposium presentations on Autistic Flow and looking forward to the weekend ahead interacting with a range of research around autism quality of life & practice

Yesterday i presented at the 4th annual PGR conference between YSJ & UoY, on measuring psychological flow states experimentally. Great fun listening to a range of fascinating talks and posters from our PGR community, on areas of memory, learning & cognition, body perception etc.

Concluding the #CuPsyNet Neuchâtel meeting with key take home messages: 1) it’s a marathon not a race. 2) Everyone moves at a different pace. Share struggles but don’t compare. 3) Navigating unexpected winds: PhDs aren’t straight forward & require flexibility & adaptation.

(2) An excellent workshop from Louis looking at unconventional research materials, eliciting a group discussion on the use and benefits of these. Ending the day with a group Apéritif and social time.

Final day 2 of CuPsyNet has come to an end. Some wonderful PhD presentations, followed by a keynote on ‘anecdotes from the sea’, the process of doing a PhD with both the ups & downs, including long time travelling, & sometimes having to sleep on a ‘bad pillow’ on travels (1)

Incredible day 1 of the CuPsyNet meeting, Neuchâtel. Great group discussion on overcoming struggles of being a PhD student, e.g., avoidance, imposter syndrome & loneliness. Regardless of the origin country, all our experiences and shared struggles were relatable to all #CuPsyNet

Attending my first meeting for the European doctoral network for cultural psychology at the university of Neuchâtel, Switzerland. Looking forward to beginning the weekend with the theme of ‘Navigating obstacles: harbouring struggles when lost at sea’

After some intense data collection for the last 6 weeks, with many many days spent in the psychology labs, I have finally concluded my data collection with 50 participants! Excited to get to explore the data and progress in the future methodology to measure flow states #Flow

Soon I'm going to be recruiting an RA for a project @YSJPsych looking at the intersections of gender, sexuality, (dis)ability and neurotype. It will be a mixed methods, coproduced approach. The post will be 1.5days/week for 10months. Advert on the way! Let me know if you have Qs.

Officially started piloting my study on ‘Measuring Psychological Flow ‘States’ Experimentally’. So far 10 pilot participants. Piloting before data collection has highlighted the true complex nature to flow and all the dimensions involved to capture. #Flow #Psychology #Piloting

I have recently had my 1 year PhD transfer review and passed! Officially classed as a 2nd year PhD student. Time to keep working and getting things moving along with piloting and data collection. #psychology #FlowStates #PhD

Some advice for postgraduate students this morning: ‘it’s okay not to be okay in this journey but let yourself feel it’ ‘Let yourself sulk and not react immediately’ ‘Take the small wins! Also, embrace alternate interests and activities, a PhD takes time’ @HelgiYSJ #APGRSC2024
