President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has met with global investors in Paris, France, emphasising transparency and fiscal discipline, and explaining the rationale for the swift implementation of bold reforms.   At the meeting, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Taiwo Oyedele, highlighted Nigeria's strong GDP growth in dollar terms in 2025.   He said Nigeria recorded 11.2% GDP growth in dollar terms last year, a record that reinforced the country's ambition to achieve a $1 trillion economy in 2030.   Oyedele emphasised the government's near-term priorities of translating reforms into results for the Nigerian people. He also pledged to publish quarterly financial data.   The Director General of the Debt Management Office, Mrs Patience Oniha, assured investors of the government’s responsible approach to debt financing and its focus on sustainable debt management.   The investors were from Citibank and France's Amundi, led by Valerie Baudson. There were also BlueCrest, the Britain- and South Africa-based Ninety One, Kirkoswald Capital, Principal Finisterre, US groups Prudential Global Investment Management (PGIM) and Mesarete Capital.   President Tinubu, who left Nigeria on Sunday for a three-nation trip, said the economic reform program of his administration includes measures to remove economic distortions and stabilise macroeconomic indicators, laying the foundation for sustained inclusive growth.   He said his government is committed to deepening reforms, enhancing transparency across the oil value chain, and implementing a multi-pronged security strategy, including police decentralisation and disrupting terrorist financing.   "The focus remains on policy stability and diligent execution to ensure these strategic shifts translate into concrete benefits for all Nigerians", President Tinubu said.   Some of the investors who spoke at the meeting commended the government's transformative reforms and expressed optimism about the Nigerian economy.   One of the investors asked President Tinubu about his post-2027 agenda. He promised to strengthen fiscal discipline and transparency, and to deliver policy consistency. Bayo Onanuga Special Adviser to the President, (Information & Strategy)

All this eyeservice command you guys issue from the top is for the gullible. Set up a department nationwide like military police to go round catching officers abusing their office and flaunting orders from the top. Instead of waiting for citizens to catch them for you.

The Nig police has built an image of an institution of corruption. If you want to convince Nigerians that you are changing that then it must start from the top. Set up a department to start investigating officers living above their income or seen abusing their office.

IGP DISU CONVENES EMERGENCY CONFERENCE WITH SENIOR POLICE LEADERSHIP, ANNOUNCES KEY REFORMS The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, on Tuesday, 5th May 2026, convened an emergency conference with senior strategic managers of the Nigeria Police Force, including the Force Management Team, Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Commissioners of Police, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja. The conference, which also had members of the press in attendance, was convened to address critical national security concerns, reinforce accountability within the Force, and outline strategic operational directives for Commands and Formations nationwide. In his address, the Inspector-General of Police emphasized the imperative of transparency, discipline, and leadership responsibility at all levels of command, noting that the evolving security landscape demands a more responsive, accountable, and intelligence-driven policing approach. The IGP directly addressed the recent incident in Delta State involving the extra-judicial killing of a suspect, describing the act as unlawful and inconsistent with the values of the Nigeria Police Force. He confirmed that the officers involved have been dismissed from service, while the case has been forwarded for criminal prosecution. He reiterated the Force’s zero-tolerance stance on misconduct, stressing that no officer is above the law. Highlighting operational outcomes for April 2026, the Inspector-General of Police disclosed that intelligence-led operations across the country led to the arrest of 28 suspected terrorists, 51 murder suspects, 62 armed robbery suspects, 85 kidnapping suspects, and 54 suspected cultists. Additionally, 189 kidnapped victims were rescued, 140 firearms and 1,074 rounds of ammunition recovered, alongside 37 stolen vehicles. As part of a major structural reform, the IGP announced the establishment of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), a restructured tactical formation designed to enhance the Force’s response to serious and violent crimes. He noted that the Unit will operate strictly on intelligence-based deployment, supported by specialized training, human rights compliance, and structured accountability, with Commissioners of Police bearing direct responsibility for its oversight. The Inspector-General further directed all Commissioners of Police to strengthen community policing through regular town hall engagements with key stakeholders, including traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community groups. He also mandated that Commissioners make their contact details accessible to community leaders to improve communication and public trust. IGP Olatunji Disu reiterated that the ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force are focused on professionalism, discipline, human rights compliance, and public accountability, supported by accessible mechanisms such as the Police Complaints Response Unit (CRU). The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to institutional reform, operational efficiency, and the protection of the rights and safety of all Nigerians. DCP ANTHONY OKON PLACID, psc(+), mnipr, mni

If this guy is eventually found guilty of treason, he will face the same treatment as others previously accused of planning a coup against the government. Treason is a very serious offence and, under the law, it can carry d£ath penalty.
Bolaji Fesomade@MasterBolaji

Mark Chidiebere was arrested after talking with some soldiers about “changing the government.” That's coup plotting in disguise. It’s okay to criticise, but involving soldiers in politics is serious. The Nigerian Army saw it as a threat to national safety. It is well with him.

Organizing a protest for Justice Mark is tricky for Sowore as his alleged offence is criminal until proven otherwise by the court. Encouraging soldiers toward a change of govt can be seen as treason. Everyone should be careful with their words. Do not support any form of coup.

We must continue to remind the Nigerian Police @policeng @TunjiDisu1 that it is not a criminal offense warranting arrest or detention for bloggers to report that @TonyOElumelu, Chairman of @UBAGroup, has reportedly divorced his wife. At most, such a matter falls within the realm of civil law and does not justify police action or repression. The @PoliceNG must therefore immediately release Kingsley Akunemeihe (@Directorkem), Chigozie Success Ihebom, and John Surpruchi Nwanorue (@problemchimky). #aacourParty

It is great to finally see Peter Obi’s list of commissioners and SAs on an exercise book. It is also worth noting that they all shared the same ethnicity as Obi. This is contrary to some erroneous claims that some of them came from outside the S’East region 👀
