Honestly not sure how tbh. I just turned 23, I work full time, slightly (Very slightly) above minimum wage. I pay bills, have a dependant, need to travel for work, have no extra money coming in from benefits or parents, no inheritance, no trust fund, no help, have to pay insurances and car repairs - Yet it only took me a single full year of budgeting to save up a deposit for a house, which I now own and pay a mortgage on. I'm not going to pretend everyone's life is sun shine and roses, mine certainly wasn't, but what are their situations? What are their reasons? I know many in my situation who are sending their money up their noses and into their lungs. Did they take the piss out of their credit cards and ruin their credit? Are they pissing their money away in the pub every week? Have they even spoken to a mortgage advisor to see how much they need to save? Are they aware of 0% and 5% mortgages? Help to Buy schemes and LISAs? Such a vague statistic means nothing if you don't know the situations of the people who're included in the metric.
