@tanomuzeA It is engrained in our culture, part of our identity. Just like we don't drive on the same side of the road as the English countries. The English measure system was pushed in the 1970s but got so much push back they list both metric and English side by side.

@nikutaberuru Spirited Away, Steamboy, Spy Family was cute. The first one I ever watched in the 1970's was Speed Racer, and I found out your original version was far better than the American market one. Mufain Motors made more sense than Mach 5 for the "M" on the car.

@tanomuzeA Yes. Although we joke about gun loving Americans, my state will not keep dangerous criminals in jail and they are releasing them into the public, having the means to protect yourself is a sad necessity. Those films of people being beaten on streets unprovoked are real.

The United States and Japan are allies, but please, never try to make Japan the 51st state of the United States. There are approximately 120 million Japanese people. If a Japan state were to be created in the United States, who do you think would become the president of the United States?

@MeatyKlackers7 @ruiyukimura Very true, the distance would be an important factor. When I shop at a warehouse store like Costco, we buy supplies intended to last us 6 months or longer. The closest Aldi's is a 42mile round trip, so I only go there about 8-10 weeks apart. We go weekly to the local dairy farm.

My friends in America, in Japan, expressing patriotism is met with shunning. For example, if I put a Japanese flag sticker on my car, police officers will stop me for questioning. I only display the flag at my front door on Japanese holidays. Almost no one displays the flag at their home on weekdays. This is due to the past excessive claims made by the Japanese right wing, but don't you think it's natural to show patriotism to the country you were born in?

@pirooooon3 Like anything, nothing happens in a vacuum. Many reasons woven into a tangled knot spanning decades. We have had leaders who made poor decisions for our country & things have finally come to this. The countries meddle in one another's affairs, it's like a world wide soap opera.

@m_takewaka The clam chowder debate is the same. Red or White. The infighting between the states is entertaining and the food differs by region. More on the local town-by-town fights are who makes the best pizza.

My American friends, I'm facing a major problem here. When I say I want to eat American BBQ, some Americans say, "come to Texas," others say, "come to South Carolina," and still others say, "come to Missouri." I'm confused. Are you guys going to start a BBQ civil war?

@ibeasparky @WallStreetMav @FrankLuntz That is sad. I live in a sanctuary state, but thank god the owner of the dairy is a patriot. We are really out numbered around here as we are Cali 2.0. The area I live in is about 50/50 political wise, but the state is icy blue.

@jenni_one_note @ThrillaRilla369 Keep rockin'! We are a vanishing trade. I work in historically accurate reproduction clothing, so the hunt is even more challenging. Not having an off-the-rack size is a challenge. But with this skill you get the best fabrics, custom fit, and clothing no one else has! All good

Thankfully I was fascinated from a young age and had both grandma's who were avid sewers! (I knit, crochet, and cross stitch too :)) I definitely have noticed that -- you have to hunt around to find fabric stores that actually sell things worthy of clothing, not just quilting fabrics. Some areas are basically deserts for this, sadly, but I swear places still exist -- you just have to know where to look! This has come in ridiculously helpful, as many of us fall outside the norms of standard clothing sizes/shapes (I'm only 4'11 so trying to find pants that fit correctly is a *nightmare* unless I sew them myself)

"The science is settled." They said that about lobotomies. Drilled into the skull, severed the frontal lobe, sent the patient home quieter. Twenty thousand performed in the US alone. The surgeon got a Nobel Prize. They said it about radium. Sold in toothpaste. In face cream. In water tonics for "vitality." The factories that made it left a radioactive legacy that required federal cleanup eighty years later. The women who painted the watch dials were told to lick the brush to keep a fine point. They said it about smoking during pregnancy. Doctors endorsed specific brands. Camel ran ads with physician testimonials. "More doctors smoke Camels than any other cigarette." The settled science of the 1940s. They said it about mercury for syphilis. Rub it on the skin. Inhale the vapour. The cure was frequently worse than the disease. The disease, at least, took years. The mercury took weeks. They said it about bloodletting. For two thousand years. Every major illness. Every fever. Every infection. Open the vein, release the corruption. George Washington was bled of roughly forty percent of his blood in twelve hours on his deathbed. By doctors. Who were certain. They said it about margarine. Heart-healthy. Scientifically proven. Cardiologist-approved. The trans fat content was not discussed, because the people funding the studies were not in the business of discussing trans fat content. They are now saying it about red meat. About saturated fat. About cholesterol. About the LDL hypothesis that has never survived a randomised controlled trial with all-cause mortality as the endpoint. Settled science is where investigation stops. It is also, reliably, where the funding starts.

@jenni_one_note @ThrillaRilla369 Making your own clothes is a dying art. You notice most fabric stores cater to quilting and not apparel? Around me we have 1 box store that carries silks, tropical & suiting wools, and linen. Most gals I know don't even know which end of the needle to thread. Keep sewing!

You act like nobody still uses them anymore? 😂 I have 3 sewing machines (1 vintage, still works!, 1 from the 80s that's my fave, and an early 2000s one I honest to god hate bc it's too overpowered but it feels aspirational somehow to keep it in case I ever manage to wrangle it) and I very much mend and make my own clothes.
