Has anyone in UKS2 taught a unit which features climate change / Antarctica / Shackleton’s Journey? 🧐

@MrHteaching We love Shackleton’s journey! We turn rooms into Antarctica and put the job ‘advert’ on the door to get them talking as they come in. We give out roles from the book to write a letter of application. We turn the room into the boat for role play. Loads of real photos online.

@Emily1Wilson Robot Girl-Malorie Blackman. I think the plot is great-lots of interesting and surprising twists but a very quick chapter book.

Does anyone have any good short chapter books for year 4 please? I want to use it for guided reading lessons so rich vocabulary, great plot etc would be amazing!

@LeannLynch153 We love Shackleton’s Journey and link it to our biomes learning. We try to find beautiful books for non-fiction and this is perfect.

@LeannLynch153 We love Clockwork-it’s only short but the content could be a bit scary for younger children. It’s the sort of book that had your class clamouring for the next chapter!

@LeannLynch153 I’ve just started using some new picture books in Y6 and I love their messages but I’ll wait for the Y6 thread to share those!

Well done to all of the children who took part in Rudy’s Run for @StBarnabasLinc this week. Lots of you ran further than you have ever done before and we managed to raise over £600!

Y6 had their first session with @emabouch @artsNKDance for their wartime dance. We’ve got some talented dancers!

A very exciting new box in Y6 today! We’ve started our #raspberrypi learning and connected screens to our own computers. Fascinating to see what goes on inside and we can’t wait for tomorrow!

Thank you to all of you who’ve supported #HelloYellow day to raise money for @YoungMindsUK today. Y6 have had some lovely ideas about how to present their uniqueness through art.

Insoluble? Saturation point? Solution? Irreversible? Molecules? We’ve used of precise scientific vocabulary in our chemistry catch-up today. The Curly Wurly champion managed to stretch it from 5cm to 162cm!

Thank you to Guy @CoramLifeEd for working with us today for a virtual lesson on mental health. We had lots of great ideas about steps we can take to look after ourselves.

@MissBowdenY6 Short stories to inspire them-Clockwork, Robot Girl etc-and then ‘lose’ a chapter at the most exciting part so they have to complete it. Lots of talk for writing but capture vocabulary and sentence ideas so that by the time they write, they can’t fail-they can magpie ideas!

Year 6 class full of very reluctant writers, has anyone used anything that has really hooked students and led to some super writing outcomes? Struggling at the moment 🧐
