@DesmondMcCarey2 @Headteacherchat @_MissieBee @jon_severs @tes We got 44% GD last year, absolutely built on regular arithmetic fluency practice and clarity it earlier year groups around what children need to know and relentlessness if they don’t. Strong foundations allow greater reasoning

Parent engagement a high priority for schools, in a time where it can be easy for the relationship between families and institutions to drift. This year I created a weekly newsletter on Canva, and while it's nothing flashy, I was mostly interested in the analytics feature...

Leadership comes at you fast. Emails. Decisions. Pressure. Expectations. Noise. In those moments, the instinct can be to react quickly… but the most effective leaders create space. Space to think. Space to breathe. Space to choose the right response. Calm leadership is about slowing the moment down so that your response is intentional, measured and aligned with your values. When we respond rather than react, we lead with clarity… and others feel that calm. #CalmLeadership #Leadership #LeadershipDevelopment #LeadingWithPurpose #SchoolLeadership

Are you looking to harness feedback and pupil understanding in the classroom to adapt your teaching? The new Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) ‘Check.Adapt’ tool offers a simple scaffold for reflection. Find it here: educationendowmentfoundation.org.uk/news/checking-…

More Deliberate Practice Do pupils have sufficient opportunities for practice in handwriting lessons to achieve fluency? When we analysed this, we found teachers often spent more time giving explicit instruction and modelling than pupils spent actually writing. If we want pupils to improve their ball throwing skills in PE they need to see this modelled and then have the chance to throw balls A LOT. Handwriting is the same. Brief modelling, then lots of practice with precise feedback.

So good to see someone shouting out for mixed ages classes. Most of my teaching career was spent teaching mixed age classes (many of those years following Nat Strats.) they’re often forgotten in various frameworks and publications!
Emma Turner FCCT@Emma_Turner75

When we present something as universally to be avoided, we need to actually look at the reality of that universe. There are thousands of mixed age classes in this country that regularly use differentiation to support effective instructional design.

In 2010, a starting teacher earned 87% more than the minimum wage (£21,600 vs £11,600). Now, it’s 38% more (£32,900 vs £23,000). Do we need to restore teacher pay to recruit the strongest teachers?

OFSTED Grade distribution for the 175 primary school inspections published to date. Because it was raining and I was bored. No exceptionals given out since the glut in the pilot schools. Achievement most likely to be judged NA, and also seems to have driven SM judgements.
