As someone who lives within sniffing distance depending on which way the wind is blowing, this is really sad news.





14 years ago today, on March 1, 2010, @NASAJPL's Mars rover Spirit captured this view comprising its final pancam images showing one of its wheels stuck in soft sand around an area in Gusev Crater called Home Plate. Communication from Spirit ended 3 weeks later.



New deformation map from @ASI_spazio COSMO-SkyMed satellite constellation spanning Jan 31-Feb 1 (6 PM HST each day). Fringes indicate ground motion. Data show significant displacements in 24 hours indicating dike emplacement SW of #Kilauea caldera. ow.ly/mEmW50Qxvg2.
