Page was cast as Achilles, but with the reversal of fortunes on “wokeness” in Hollywood, Nolan thought better of it. He borrowed a character not in The Odyssey, and gave to that character a critical exchange of dialogue between Odysseus and Achilles in Hades. He hid this by changing the content of the exchange so he could plausibly deny the role of Achilles, the greatest warrior of Greece, was going to be played by Page as a commitment to ultra-wokeness.

Nolan’s The Odyssey actually opens with Travis Scott instead of Odysseus. Not a joke. One of the oldest and most legendary stories ever written starts with a modern rapper instead of the man the entire epic is about. This is peak ridiculous. They couldn’t even get the opening right without forcing in some contemporary celebrity for no reason. The source material gets zero respect. Just Hollywood injecting whatever it wants and calling it an adaptation. Clown behavior.
