Plot-wise, it really doesn't matter that much the fact that Chris had amnesia, cause the plot could still work without it. It works as characterization tho, they wanted to represent Chris as a depressed veteran who feels hopeless.

Chris is depressed and has dissociative amnesia (think that’s the term), and Piers getting him in the field brings his memories back. 1/?

Chris is only ever in Europe or China, and all areas in both regions generally look the same. Idk why there wasn’t some kinda tutorial for the cover system. I just needed up figuring it out on my own. 4/5

And it’s the finisher moves (coup de gráce as the game says). But it’s for a better score in each chapter. So yeah, I guess not much of a reward. 3/?

People (myself included) were upset that it wasn’t co-op, so a non-canon “Agent” was added. But he’s only there if you actually do co-op. 2/?
