I’m annoyed at this breaking containment because now people genuinely think Zayne is getting pegged and it turned into the same tired otome discourse which devolves both into misogyny of not finding female protagonist enough and homophobia towards players so-
No Zayne is not getting pegged, his girlfriend massaged him then likely touched his ass and he flipped out then went on to fuck her. Despite some fans enjoying the idea of pegging that isn’t in the game itself. Fanon does not change what is happening in the game, but fans can do whatever in their own space.
Yes, the protagonist Main Character can only be a woman in the game because that’s the basis of the Otome genre which translates to “Maiden” game. If you want to head canon a different gender for your character that is your personal playthrough that no one else is allowed to dictate, but that does not change the canon and most players who do headcanon other genders understand the importance of MC being a woman as it informs her story and was written and developed by a majority women dev team.
Frustratingly some LADS Players can be homophobic and that is extremely vile when anyone can play a game. The canon protagonist is not changing, so leave other players alone you bigoted fucking idiots. No one is invading the otome space, people of all identities and sexualities can play anything and enjoy the canon.
For the people saying that the game needs a male protagonist etc that IS a misogynistic sentiment because you’re saying a female main character is not enough for her own story and in a genre made by women for women? That for some reason there is something lacking when a story has a female protagonist. The majority of the development team are women and that is a big component as to why the game is so successful in showing the power of the women’s market (BUT ALSO no one should police who is allowed to play the game). Women in gaming are consistently overlooked, underfunded and have their interests ridiculed. LADS being an insanely successful adult IP made for the women’s market is helping change the current and it would do better and be less misogynistic if you didn’t keep acting like you’re saying the game is somehow lesser for having a set protagonist who is a woman.
And finally, on people thinking this scene or some fans pegging headcanons automatically aligns to homosexuality - why can’t a woman want to touch her man? A man in a heterosexual relationship is also no less heterosexual if he did engage in receiving anal sex from his female partner. If you think touching a man ass (AND AGAIN they don’t even have penetrative anal sex with him receiving, that is NOT something that exists in the game) automatically makes him gay then that’s a very skewed view of sexuality. Sexuality is based on your PARTNER and who you are attracted to. Lesbian women who use dildos are no less lesbian just because they engage in penetrative sex. Just as straight men are no less straight if they do either.
So much of the discourse around the game that either insults its existence or the female protagonist DOES devolve into or sit rooted in misogyny. If you take such issue with a female protagonist in a successful romance game why are you even looking at a genre specifically made to have a female protagonist (pronouns aside)? Women never have these expectations of male orientated romance games, but also they’re also not made with the same kind of romantic development that appeals to players more inclined to the female gaze. Men DO have a plethora of dating simulation games, and if you want a dating sim without a set gendered protagonist or something that is explicitly queer/gay, there are games that exist that provide that. We should be wanting MORE games with diverse representation, not decrying and belittling the importance of a female protagonist in a story made by women when women are already treated like shit in the gaming space. There is no excuse for homophobia OR misogyny.
