Key thing is, mentoring PhD students & publishing with them is on the decline as it is more rewarding to network (with multiple authors) and publish. Training PhD students take time & those papers don't get much citations. In fact, most prolific authors don't have PhD students😕

If you want a PhD in Biology - find PhD mentors that you like and respect (and who like and respect you) and then find out what the graduate students in that program have to say (good and bad) about being there. Pay no attention to the @usnews rankings in making your decision.
