Reading Genesis 6:10 outdoors this fine eastern NC morning, on the back deck of my in-law’s home with a cool breeze, low humidity, and birds singing, I decided what I want on my tombstone (personalized, of course): “Noah walked with God.” Man, those words are just perfect. ❤️

BREAKING: The Chicago Bulls are waiving Jaden Ivey after he spoke out against the NBA for promoting 'Pride Month' and unrighteousness, according to ESPN. Ivey recently announced that he was alive in Christ. "They proclaim Pride Month in the NBA. They show it to the world. They say, 'Come join us for Pride Month to celebrate unrighteousness.'" "They proclaim it on the billboards, they proclaim it in the streets, unrighteousness." He said nothing wrong.

Biblical Counselors: If you take upon yourself the responsibility of your client’s sanctification, which belongs to God alone, you will eventually adopt a legalistic ethos in an attempt to maintain control. This will end in anxiety and despair for both you and your client.

@jacobelwart The Colossians passage you cite is of course one we all love and embrace. Him we proclaim! But, it doesn’t in any way minimize the reality that, ultimately, sanctification is a gospel grace, a gift of the Spirit. Sanctification belongs to salvation, and salvation to the Lord.

Overheard: Biblical counseling's *ultimate goal* is sanctification. I demur. BC's ultimate goal is *to glorify God and enjoy him forever* (WSC Q1). A given case may never see the former, but it can always pursue the latter. Sanctification is God's work, not mine (WLC Q75).

@WaulkThisWay BCing is more than giving instruction or giving a prayer schedule and a Bible reading plan. Sometimes it's listening, making sense of the counselee's experience, interpreting and translating it for them through Scripture and giving Christ. It may take a long time for "change".

Civic righteousness isn't the biblical counselor's ultimate goal; God's glory is (WSC Q1). If the best you can do in a moment is to convince the alcoholic to stop drinking momentarily, start there (humble beginnings). Serve the counselee you have, not the one you wish you had.
