I’m going to take a bit of a break, but as we move into the next phase of the discussion I’d like you to understand the core difference between Jonah Barnes and me:
For Jonah, the SRA topic is a chance for him to pretend he’s intelligent and righteous. It’s an exercise in pride, and it bleeds through everything he does. He’s never talked to a victim or someone falsely accused, doesn’t want to talk to victims, and never will talk to victims. If he has to lie, he’ll lie. If he has to plagiarize, he’ll plagiarize. The means justify the ends for Jonah the Law Breaker.
For me, this is a hugely important conversation because part of my family has been decimated by generations of abuse, including allegations of SRA. I’ve talked to victims and those who have been accused, lawyers on both sides of the argument, church leaders, reporters, researchers… anyone who’s willing to help me get to the bottom of this complex issue.
One side won’t step outside their echo chamber. The other wants to have conversations in good faith. One side desperately needs their position to be true to hold their worldview together. The other is open to learning, knowing we don’t have it all figured out yet.
Choose wisely how you proceed. The well-being of many of God’s children hangs in the balance.
