“The Invictus Spirit is all about being unconquered and what better way to be unconquered than by running a marathon?” – Karl Hinett At Mile 23 of the #LondonMarathon, Veterans’ Corner brought that spirit to life, uniting the Armed Forces community together in the first dedicated space ever at the London Marathon for the UK's military charities. Led by the #InvictusGames Foundation, it showed how sport continues to drive recovery, resilience, and connection Beyond the Games.

We're celebrating all runners who took part in the #LondonMarathon this year, each with their own story, motivation, and cause they proudly supported, including the runners for the #InvictusGames Foundation. From months of early mornings and long training runs to the energy of race day, every finisher showed commitment, resilience, and determination to reach the start line and beyond. The Invictus Movement turned 10 Years old in Ukraine this year and we are celebrating the impact of sports recovery on the Ukrainian service community during this difficult time for the nation. Ukraine’s Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko highlighted the movement’s impact, with 300,000 veterans now engaged in sport-based recovery thanks to the change brought by the #InvictusGames Foundation. Thank you to the TCS @LondonMarathon for recognising the importance of supporting the Armed Forces community. Veterans’ Corner marks the event’s first dedicated space for UK military charities to come together - offering a safe, welcoming environment to connect, show support, and stand side by side. The #InvictusGames Foundation has proudly spearheaded this initiative, and it’s been inspiring to see the smiles, camaraderie, and well-deserved recognition for a community that gives so much.

Today, we commemorate the strength, resilience and sacrifice of those who have served or continue to. We also honour the families who support and stand beside them. Our team, many of whom are veterans or family members, have marked the day in their own personal ways.

It has been wonderful to reconnect with members of the Ukrainian Invictus Community such as Yulia ‘Taira’ Paevska, Oleksandr Budko and Sem Lahun during our time in Ukraine. Oleksandr, Sem and Taira were members of Team Ukraine at the Invictus Games Düsseldorf 2023 with Taira’s story famously captured in our Netflix series ‘Heart of Invictus’. Our support of the Invictus Community goes Beyond the Games and we are proud to be providing Ukraine with funding through our Signature Programme with support for sports initiatives, equipment, research and more. The Duke of Sussex began his visit to Kyiv yesterday, joining Ukrainian Government representatives, veteran leaders and the Invictus Games Foundation to focus on recovery, rehabilitation and the role of veterans in national resilience. Discussions at the Kyiv Security Forum and with Ukrainian Invictus Games participants highlighted the importance of sport, community and shared experience in rebuilding identity, confidence and purpose after service. April 15 in San Diego was officially declared #InvictusGames Foundation Day! It has been a fantastic set of days in San Diego, witnessing the extent to which the veteran community is embedded across the city as the IGF explored the potential for San Diego to host a future Invictus Games. As our CEO Rob Owen OBE said during a reception of supporters and businesses, “this feels like a global city, and a military town.” Our core focus is on the ways in which the Invictus Movement can continue to go from strength to strength, to serve the community of international wounded injured and sick service personnel and veterans. Next steps are presentations to the board of trustees this June when the decision on the location for the Invictus Games 2029 will be made. It's Day Two of our visit to San Diego, as the city continues to showcase its vision for the #InvictusGames 2029. As the birthplace of triathlon, and set along the Californian coast, San Diego’s bid includes the exciting addition of Surfing and Triathlon. The IGF were delighted to meet with @CAFoundation, who outlined their clinical approach to recovery through movement and sport - including Surfing, which they would look forward to offering to our community.
