@imaginari_es 4-5 days a year. First year is the most time consuming, after that you can keep referring to previous reports. Most benefit for me has been 'evidence' that other ways are possible. But selfishly, I'd only do it for a programme I respected (which arguably needs my input least)

@justdesigntruth @quigdes No, I didn’t take it as having a go at lecturers. I think it’s a valid comment on a University system that uses business as a model, but doesn’t accept all the consequences

@WeDontDoRetro @quigdes I hope you do not see the no reluctance comment as any kind of 'dig' at the lecturers. I have a tremendous amount of respect that the time that goes in and understand (some of) the constraints involved.

My feed is fairly busy with Loughborough graduates right now. Having worked with some of these over the part year, and seeing them getting 2:1s, then getting CVs from graduates in other universities with 1st class honours, you can immediately see that not all courses are equal.

@justdesigntruth @quigdes I hate having to ask professionals to give their time for free; I try to make things mutually beneficial and I’m enormously appreciative of people like Kevin that support our students. I’m in no way reluctant to put my hand in my back pocket, but there’s nothing in there ☹️

@justdesigntruth @quigdes It’s a totally valid point, but it reflects the business model of all universities in the UK. I don’t know any academic that doesn’t work unpaid overtime every week; most courses would fall apart if academics worked to contract

@justdesigntruth @quigdes My discretionary budget for events outside the core curriculum is zero. The money available to those who deliver teaching is tighter than ever, and it’s going to get worse with the government cuts to University Art & Design teaching.

Doing that makes a mockery of standards, and it makes a mockery of the students actually on those courses who DO deserve the top honours. Suffice to say the quality of the 2:1 folks from Loughborough FAR exceeds most 1st class honours from other places. And that is wrong.
