#sapsKZN [MULTIDISCIPLINARY OPERATION GIJIMA IN DURBAN] Members descended on the China Mall building in the heart of Dr Prixly KaSeme Street, where more than 60 foreign nationals were taken in for verification. Several businesses were found operating in violation of municipal bylaws, while others were arrested for trading under asylum seeker VISAs with study-only conditions. Another raid a building on Park Street uncovered serious bylaw violations, leading to the owner being charged under Section 4(1) of the National Building Regulations Act. The building had allegedly been partitioned using dry walls and illegally converted into residential flats, restaurants, and a sports bar. We understand that the matter is still under investigation, and we will maintain close communication with the South African police on this issue.
The Chinese government has zero tolerance toward the production and sale of counterfeit goods, and we support the South African government in taking firm action against such illegal activities. At the same time, all actions must be conducted on the basis of the rule of law and due process. Should the suspect be found guilty, China will work with South Africa on law enforcement in this regard.

On Tuesday, 26/05, members under #OperationProsper confiscated 6,201 litres of various liquor products with an estimated value of R3.5 MIL which were booked in as exhibits. The Chinese government saw the news of their people being caught selling counterfeit goods here in South Africa and instead of acting like victims and treating their citizens like Hero’s for breaking our laws! The first thing they did was to call out their citizens for breaking the laws of our country, told them that they don’t support their actions and offered support to South Africa… Now you guys tell me… WHY is it so difficult for African leaders to do the same? Why are they so hellbent on always assuming the position of being victims? Why are African leaders so afraid of taking responsibility and accountability??? Including our own??? Even their people have become obsessed with playing the victim card and using sad stories to justify breaking laws!!! Honestly why??

Warrant issued for Giyani businessman who fled to China ahead of trial
The Polokwane Specialised Commercial Crimes Court has issued a warrant of arrest for Giyani businessman Howard Mashaba after he absconded from trial today, 29 May 2026, reportedly travelling to China on a business trip without the court's permission.
Mashaba, a convicted fraudster with four previous criminal records, faces charges including fraud, theft, three counts of money laundering, and contraventions of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act (POCA). The state alleges he fraudulently concluded property deals involving state-owned land worth between R290,000 and R450,000. The properties were never transferred, and a hotel was unlawfully built on one of them.
The businessman is also under investigation by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) for allegedly diverting over R34.4 million from the National Lotteries Commission. In February 2026, the Limpopo High Court ordered the forfeiture of his R22 million hotel built on state land.
Mashaba has a history of defying court orders. He remains a fugitive from a 2019 contempt sentence for failing to pay Mercedes-Benz approximately R22 million.
His father, Magezi Ben Mashaba (74), and two other co-accused are expected to appear alongside him when the matter resumes on 29 June 2026 should authorities execute the warrant before then.
