Very impressive frontal band just about to move ashore in SF Bay Area. Quite a lot of convective activity is present, with numerous lightning strikes, briefly torrential downpours, and possibly a burst of very strong (50 to locally 70 mph) wind gusts. Not a typical NorCal frontal passage! #CAwx

Tuesday, November 19, 2024, 6:22 PM PDT: The unbelievable infrared satellite view this evening of the bomb cyclone continuing to have a rapid intensification process due to the warmer sea surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean is quite impressive. The central axis of the main low has generated an astounding intensification process of dropping four millibars every 30 minutes. This is now a 497 DM low pressure that was promising to break records by Wednesday 2 AM just off Oregon and Washington coastline approximately 180 miles due west of Vancouver British Columbia. It only takes one storm to change the forecast so abruptly nowadays. The rainfall forecast for Southern California gaining better atmospheric and solution values communication as confidence increases. One main reason the 1020 mb surface high pressure in San Diego, weakened significantly in the last 6 to 12-hour period and started slowly drifting southward trajectory in the last 8 hours. This situation may have a stronger pull of moisture even further southbound than previously thought. However, more details have emerged in the last 2 hours of the significant changes that are ahead for our region for the upcoming weekend and the start of the Thanksgiving travel rush on Sunday and next Monday. #Bombcyclone #CAwx #Oregon #Californiastorms
