This rather bizarre looking larvae (c.3-4 mm long) will (hopefully) develop into one of the delightful Figwort weevils (Cionus sp.). Apparently they are covered in shiny goo which is distasteful to predators and parasites. On Common Figwort in our garden.

Can anyone help with this, seen at Highgate Common, Staffs. About 3mm long. Found similar looking weevils but nothing that quite fits. @WeevilRS

@ginobrignoli Yes, that looks like glandium. The adults often wander or get displaced from oaks.

Exciting weevil from our Thetford garden this weekend, the nationally scarce Platystomos albinus; relatively short antennae make this one a female. Great results from a dead wood pile. @WeevilRS

First British example of the weevil - gasterocercus depressirostris trapped in my VC15 moth trap on 27/9. A rare species in its central and Southern European range. Well worth potting anything unusual, not just moths!

@TimothyJonas @ColSocBI Yes, that’s right. Yellow scales on sides of pronotum, with broad black gap between them.

Visited a nearby pond today where I've found Figwort Weevils (Cionus scrophulariae) before. Wondering if this could be C. tuberculosus though? If so this could be a good northern record...🤔 @WeevilRS @ColSocBI

There is a new weevil species in Northern Ireland, but we do not know what it is. Does anyone recognise it?

@ginobrignoli The pronotum appears granulated rather than pitted, which would rule out indefinitus. Shape looks like raucus, but that should have scales. Odd.

@clairemacccc It looks like a Sitona. Several species, difficult to tell apart without a close look.

@BritishBugs @persmiseth It is a pretty thing, one of our favourites. Known from across the Central Belt, but not common, so a good find.

@WeevilRS anyone know of any info on parasitoids of Apoderus coryli ? I found a leaf roll with larva accompanied by what appeared to be larva of Braconid/ichneumon or something, I didn't collect it tho i have a history of failure rearing these things. Rolled it back up & left it
