UPDATE: Minister of Water and Environment, Sam Cheptoris, has warned that starting next week, government will demolish all structures built in wetlands, regardless of the owner’s status. He cited a school in Seeta built in a wetland, saying it will be removed to allow for restoration. Mr Cheptoris made the remarks at the ongoing National Performance and Review Conference. #MonitorUpdates 📹: @GeofreyMutumba2

NEMA has ordered Ddungu Resort Beach in Munyonyo to restore 226m of Lake Victoria’s shoreline they encroached without NEMA approval—including a wall extending 98m into the lake. Buffer zones protect our water bodies. Our lakes are not for sale. Good job @nemaugED #LakeVictoria

Liberty Pro Bono Initiative

On 1st April 2026, the Liberty Pro Bono Initiative (LPI) successfully conducted a one-day Digital Security and Awareness Training for brave female Environmental and Human Rights Defenders (EHRDs) from communities affected by the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) in Uganda. These women face significant physical and digital risks, including surveillance, hacking, and data breaches while documenting human rights and environmental violations. The training, equipped participants with practical skills to secure their communications, assess personal digital risks, and develop simple safety plans. By strengthening their digital security, LPI is supporting these defenders to continue their critical work more safely and effectively in the fight for environmental justice and human rights.

Africa Youth Mobilisation for COP
As we head toward COP31, the promise made at COP26 still hangs in the balance: halt and reverse forest loss by 2030. Africa cannot afford delayed action while forests disappear and communities bear the cost. Youth across the continent are rising, to be heard. #AYM4COP #COP31
