Personal post- I have lost 40 lbs in the past year. What surprises me the most is how differently strangers treat me now. I am realizing that there is so much work to do to combat all the unconscious (or conscious) big person shaming that exists in our society. While I am happy to be treated better by my fellow humans, I can't help but feel like everyone deserves to be seen without big person judgment, as if being a larger person is a lazy choice. I am here to say it is in many ways not a choice. Perhaps now the ability to lose weight is a privilege that can't be achieved by everyone who struggles. I truly believe our bodies are not yet wired for modern society. The same traits that kept us alive 200 years ago, make us big today. Be kind, to everyone.
