The other thing Wheatley's departure shows once more is the problem that Sauber had from its early sportscar days - attracting top British talent to live and work in Switzerland when there are so many opportunities closer to home. People rarely stay long...

@craigburley @adamcooperF1 Not hugely. Almost all of the teams for decades have been headquartered in a relatively small area around Silverstone, so people can switch teams for a better job etc pretty easily. The only F1 teams really based outside of that area are Sauber/Cadillac and Ferrari.

@adamcooperF1 Why does it have to be top British talent? Do the rest of the world not do F1 or engineering.

@AMadmanNotABox Indeed, but Peter has said a few times he nearly broke the rule himself, and decided to leave after deciding the Season 20 scripts were not good enough. He's said if he could have made the decision after reading the Season 21 scripts, he'd have stayed on another year.

-March 1983, and it is during this time that Davison acted upon that opinion to indicate that he would leave after three seasons to avoid typecasting. So there's your second yes.

I think there's a misconception in fandom that the 'three season rule' has existed in the way that they think it did. Going one by one: Hartnell (23 Nov 63 - 29 Oct 66) Innes Lloyd got exec. permission to replace Hartnell, and he accepted that (to some degree for his health)

#DoctorWho Spicy Take #162: The “three season rule” was a mistake. Three seasons isn’t long enough to get an incarnation’s full potential. Moffat had to scrap the ending of 11’s planned arc because Matt didn’t wanna do a fourth season. I think they should stay 4-5 seasons each.

@m_Jude_ @adamcooperF1 One idea would be to put on a race in the summer gap, maybe at a European circuit. 5 months' warning & if it's a repeat (stay in Hungary for another week, go to Netherlands a week early) it could be doable. However, some of the articles have specified this is now a 22 race season

@adamcooperF1 Interesting that F1 says "no substitutions will be made in April." They could've said 'no substitute races will be held in their place'... or similar. So are they leaving the door open for a couple of back to back races, at the same circuit, later in the year perhaps?

It's finally official and very careful wording as F1 says "After careful evaluations, due to the ongoing situation in the Middle East region, the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix will not take place in April. While several alternatives were considered, it was ultimately decided that no substitutions will be made in April. The Formula 2, Formula 3 and F1 Academy rounds will also not take place during their scheduled times.  The decision has been taken in full consultation with the FIA and respective promoters."

@the_zb_ I don’t see why Jeddah needed cancelling. It’s on the Red Sea coast. It’s not a security risk like Bahrain

So, Bahrain and Saudi will be cancelled, which is probably the correct call for an abundance of safety. For Bahrain, it’s an obvious call. For Saudi, it seems that a few sources are saying major logistics issues (including proper event insurance challenges) and fears of low attendance will force their hand into a cancellation within the next day or two. I haven’t heard any legitimate talk of replacement races. It appears we will just run 2 less races in 2026. F1 dodges a disastrous situation for these cars running in Jeddah, that would’ve been another worst case scenario track for the regulations.

@Dal3k92SC @DWMtweets @filmisfabulous Episodes 1, 2, 3, 5 and 10 now exist in the archive, so seven episodes (4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12) are still missing. Episode 7 incredibly unlikely to ever be recovered, but you never know.

@ChadSchehr @princemoth7 @BenWarbrooke @Clint_Davey1 AoE2 is an active game, it's getting at least 2 new expansions every year (with multiplayer content and a singleplayer campaign) which keeps the fanbase engaged. SC1 and 2 still have active scenes but they're not getting new content to invigorate the fanbase.

Aside from just awesome gameplay and a good story, the main achievement of Starcraft in the classic RTS era was the asymmetry. In Age of Empires and Warcraft the different playable factions were mostly identical. Starcraft had 3 totally different factions - everything from the unit roster to the art to the tech tree was different. Command and Conquer Generals was similar. Now, asymmetry is pretty common in the gaming world. Starcraft set a new standard.

Really shocked to hear about Rob Grant's passing. It's prompted me to dig out @jroberts332's excellent interviews with Rob and Doug, which we ran in @tvyears in 2019.
