10 years. You have seen me through grad school, engagement, marriage, and my first child. Oh, and did I mention that in those 10 years, you have lived in 9 different states? Happy birthday, Bella! 🐕🌎🎂

A lot of exciting courses at the @osuchasecenter this fall - my wife Laura will be teaching about How Politics Breaks Your Brain, @sabrinablittle is tackling happiness, and @DanielGullotta is looking to the life of Bonhoeffer as an inspiration for leadership and discipleship.

"On our end-of-year survey for all the programs, we had many students say that they were more likely to apply to graduate school in philosophy, but a large number also indicated that they were not." Seeing the direction academia is headed, maybe that means we were successful?

@lecielcyan It's a cruel and unusual punishment for junior scholars - something only ethicists could come up with.

Just another symptom of philosophy's journal crisis. Because the journals function as "CV prizes" with higher rejection rates than Nature and Science, reviewers operate in "prize judging mode" rather than "is the paper publishable?" mode.
Matthew Lutz@MattLutzPhi

Had a paper rejected and am feeling salty, so sure, this is sour grapes. But it is *insane* that reviewers treat "I have a substantive philosophical disagreement with the argument of this paper" as a reason to reject.

I grew up the son of a Baptist preacher. Unsurprisingly, the first time I read the word ‘philosophy’ was in the Bible. The message was not a positive one. And somehow I still ended up a philosophy professor!
