@ian_t_adams Set it up correctly and a dropdown is all that separates you from using different Claude and GPT models / versions

@ian_t_adams Honestly, if you want even better integration with agents and GitHub I would try VS. great coding flexibility for things like Python and R with direct integration and the agents can still be used to assist with niche languages like STATA, SAS, & SPSS

After I first dove into Claude Code, some of my first calls were to the grad students I work closely with. I was scared...for them. I gave them 30 days to dive in, and challenged them to become better, faster, and more deeply ingrained than I already was. All have so far responded to the challenge and are making so much progress. There are definitely dangers in the agentic social science age, but there is far more danger to our students if we pretend that standing still is the risk-free choice.
Chris Blattman@cblatts

This is interesting because if anything my ability to manage more projects and my research assistants’ ability to use Claude code means that I'm probably hiring more Chicago-based and international-based RAs now more than before because their productivity and mine is so much greater. Used correctly I think smart young researchers are compliments to me and AI and not substitutes. (And I'm doing this despite the fact that Mr. Trump and Mr. Musk cut about 80% of my funding in the past year so I'm hiring despite rather desperate financial constraints).

@CrimFerret I’m going to be blunt here. If you don’t have tattoos, I probably won’t trust you & will have reservations about you having the appropriate life experience to be a researcher that you will have to overcome. Does that make me a dirtbag? Probably

@kepadil @CrimFerret Unfortunately there is a subset of criminologists who are married to other criminologists who don’t like neck tattoos….

AI will free academics from the burden of research so we can focus on the work that matters: cyberbullying each other on social media.

All I know is that the discourse surrounding the em dash and AI make me feel personally attacked. First the em dash, next the ellipses, and then the Oxford comma. When will AI appropriation of neurodivergent writing styles stop? #clankerappropriation #chillitsjustajoke

Does anyone have a good explanation to why the em dash (—) is rendered out so much by LLMs The explanation is always that it's in the training data a lot. I don't think that's true at all. And why is it so hard to get LLM's to stop using them?

I support interdisciplinary collaboration. I do not support inter-respiratory collaboration. S/O to my 2 year-old co-author.

Some of Aaron Moten’s facial expressions alone during Fallout season 1 make him a lead contender in an eventual Denzel Washington biopic

AI knows I’m a criminologist who studies policing, loves Taylor Swift, & is a mom. Well played. 👏🏼

@NFL you really need to hold referees accountable for bad calls, especially when they involve player injuries

I made the mistake of creating a spreadsheet of manuscript reviews I did in 2025 and I'm HORRIFIED. I love doing them but SOMEONE STOP ME.
