“Everyone is in favor of free speech. Hardly a day passes without its being extolled, but some people's idea of it is that they are free to say what they like, but if anyone else says anything back, that is an outrage.” - Winston Churchill

HAPPENING NOW: Gov. Greg Abbott and Austin Police Association President Michael Bullock are speaking about the Gov’s public safety agenda. Bullock specifically mentions Travis Co. DA: “They have pursued police officers more than the criminals we arrest.” @cbsaustin

Since Trump imposed a $100K fee on H-1B applicants from outside the US: -OUTSIDE APPLICATIONS are down 87%. -TOTAL issuances are down 25%. That's up to 50,000 fewer H-1Bs in America this year.
Index Red@indexred

There is no 87 percent reduction in overall H-1B visas. There's a $100k fee on new H-1B petitions which does nothing but freeze small firms out of the importing cheap labor game. Of course to allow Big Tech to get what they want because they pay it.

For those paying attention to “what’s wrong with Congress today,” House REPUBLICANS are now refusing to ban corporations from buying up America’s single family homes. A disgusting sell out of the American family - who deserves to build our generation’s American Dream, too.

We basically did NINJA loans again but this time with non-US citizens Many homebuilders, such as Bloomfield Homes in Celina, TX offered access to FHA loans for H-1B visa holders through their preferred lenders until May of 2025, when Trump had HUD shut these lending practices down Some of these FHA loans offered 100% financing through a combination of a standard FHA loan and access to State assisted first time homebuyer grants for the 3% downpayment Yes, you read that correctly, your tax dollars funded home-buying grants for non-US Citizens during the Biden administration Is it just a coincidence that home prices began falling at a rapid pace in Celina, TX almost immediately after Trump shut this program down? How many people bought a brand new home with zero money down at peak 2022-2024 pricing? You won’t see an impact at a national level, but you WILL see it in certain markets with a lot of H-1B tech workers and new construction

The Biden administration was basically giving free houses to Indians. THEY. WERE. GIVING. FREE. HOUSES. TO. INDIANS. Trump cut the cord. The sudden wave of homes for sale in the Dallas area is likely Indians who suddenly found themselves underwater on their mortgages.
Robert Sterling@RobertMSterling

During the Biden administration, H-1B visa holders were buying houses with 97-100% financing. 97% would come from the FHA, with the rest coming from state first-time home buyer programs. Zero money down. Thanks to programs that were supposed to be helping low-income American families buy their own homes. FHA loans to non-permanent residents quickly grew to represent 6% of mortgage issuances. The percentage was undoubtedly higher in places like the DFW area, where H-1B visa holders are disproportionately concentrated. I don’t have anything against people in America on H-1B visas. I’ve said it before—and I’ll say it again—that I’ve found many of them to be great people on an individual level, and I wish them all nothing but the best. Individual immigrants—especially those here legally—are not at fault for flawed US immigration policy. But this might be the most radicalizing thing I’ve ever seen. Not only are American workers forced to compete for jobs, they’re also forced to compete in the housing market against people bringing 0-3% of a house’s cost to the closing table, versus the 10-20% most people have to pay. First, companies import mass numbers of H-1B visa holders, largely in "back office" white-collar fields like IT and accounting. This essentially imposes a lower ceiling on domestic wages in these job categories. Next, these workers—who are generally concentrated in certain geographic areas—create more demand for housing (especially in good school districts), driving up home prices and the cost of living. Then, to top it off, they don’t even have to save up money for a down payment. They can close on a $500k house with $0-15k plus a 97% FHA loan. Meanwhile, ordinary American families are forced to come to with $50-100k for the same down payment. I don’t care how you feel about Trump or what your preferred immigration policies are; there’s no defending this. It screws over hard-working American citizens several different ways over, and it’s yet another reason why I will always be glad Trump won and Kamala Harris lost in 2024.

Travis County (Austin) keeps giving this woman another lifeline to harm, threaten her community. 31 different charges...and she still walks...
Austin Justice@AustinJustice

AUSTIN WOMAN's dogs maul a woman walking down a sidewalk. The victim didn't think she'd survive, and her arm is so badly torn she'll need plastic surgery. Panvrla White was charged in March with a felony, her Cane Corsos were euthanized, and she posted bond with orders not to possess any pets. Then things got worse. Travis County prosecutors quietly dismissed two of her unrelated felonies (burglary and criminal mischief) through pre-trial diversion. Days later, White started threatening shelter staff, got banned from the property, and kept coming back. When officers arrested her last month, they found meth tucked in her bra. She bonded out again. A week later, she tracked down a witness from the dog case at an HEB and punched him in the face and allegedly threw a rock went through his window. Then she called a veteran's crisis line and said she had an AK-47 and was going to kill shelter staff and the officers who took her dogs. She named an animal services investigator and said, "by the end of the day there will be no more of you." White has 32 cases in Travis County, including a felony for forging docs to sell a dead lady's house, plus convictions for robbery/theft and credit card abuse. A harassment case is still pending from last year, when her OTHER dog, a Spanish Mastiff, attacked a neighbor she then spent weeks threatening.

The law still allows physical postings of the “Notice of Intent” inside the hiring department or office, meaning the university can continue sponsoring H-1B employees without maintaining a public webpage listing those notices. Please keep the pressure on them until they make a public announcement that they will stop sponsoring H-1Bs. But this is a great victory nonetheless because it shows that the university is facing backlash and may think twice about sponsoring H-1Bs in the future.
David Wasinger@davidwasinger

Glad to see @Mizzou take action on these H-1B postings. Missouri taxpayers should not be funding the replacement of American workers while our own graduates are looking for jobs. Public universities must put Missouri students, Missouri families, and American workers first, not the globalist H-1B pipeline.

Delta rejected adopting SpaceX's @Starlink on its fleet because it wanted to provide internet connectivity to passengers via the Delta Sync portal, instead of the Starlink-branded portal. Delta has since chosen to partner with Amazon's LEO. This will result in Delta falling behind many of its competitors in offering high-speed WiFi onboard, as many other carriers are already offering or installing Starlink, whereas Amazon's LEO airplane WiFi for Delta is still a couple year away (or more). Satellites currently in orbit: • SpaceX's Starlink: 10,400 • Amazon's LEO: 300 (Delta rejection info according to Ron Baron)

Here are 4 things that happened to the UK in the last 24 hours: 1. The Labour government confirmed it will remove the right to a jury trial. Cases will be tried by a judge alone. 2. The Labour gvt confirmed it will impose Digital ID despite it never being included in Labour's manifesto and nearly 3 million Brits signing a petition against it. 3. The Labour gvt confirmed we will "align" with the European Union, directly going against the 2016 democratic vote for Brexit & forcing the British people to pay billions for laws they'll never be able to influence. 4. The Labour gvt confirmed that while Islamist sympathisers & antisemites are free to march on the streets of our capital city, & while it welcomes former allies of al-Qaeda into Downing Street, it has banned conservative activists from joining a peaceful protest against mass immigration in London. Put all these things together and you get a sense - just a sense - of how hideously authoritarian and illiberal this Labour government really is.

This is absolutely insane. President Trump is currently flying to China with all of the following people to request "deals" with China's President Xi: 1. Elon Musk, Tesla and SpaceX CEO 2. Jensen Huang, Nvidia CEO 3. Tim Cook, Apple CEO 4. Larry Fink, BlackRock CEO 5. Stephen Schwarzman, Blackstone CEO 6. Kelly Ortberg, Boeing CEO 7. Brian Sikes, Cargill CEO 8. Jane Fraser, Citigroup CEO 9. Larry Culp, General Electric CEO 10. David Solomon, Goldman Sachs CEO 11. Sanjay Mehrotra, Micron CEO 12. Cristiano Amon, Qualcomm CEO President Trump also says there are "many other" CEOs joining him on the trip who have not yet been disclosed. Never in history has such a trip even remotely near this scale and caliber occurred. This Trump-Xi meeting is far bigger than most realize.
