The WDC today met with Minister Alan Dillon at Leinster House to discuss ongoing work to advance the Circular Economy and sustainable regional development, informed by recent OECD findings. The discussion explored opportunities for collaboration in driving innovation, local enterprise and community engagement to build a more circular and resource-efficient economy. This aligns with the WDC’s Unlocking Potential, Driving Change 2025–2029 strategy, which identifies sustainability, partnership and social innovation as key pillars for regional growth. With the Whole of Government Circular Economy Strategy 2026–2028 now open for consultation, the meeting provided a timely opportunity to connect regional insight with national policy.

The WDC was pleased to join ASTRIC partners at #EURegionsWeek, showcasing how collaboration and innovation can support the shift to a more circular economy. Visitors to the stand learned about the ASTRIC project and its METRICs tool, designed to help regions measure and plan for circularity. There was strong interest from delegates keen to understand its potential impact across Europe. Aoife Malone, EU Projects Officer with the WDC, was joined by Magnus Magnus Rudehäll (Region Västerbotten, Sweden), Antti Kotimaa (Savonia University of Applied Sciences, Finland) and Julie Dowling (AIM Centre, Sligo), with Christopher Parker from Interreg Northern Periphery and Arctic also visiting the stand.
