Riemann came up with his geometrical analyses in 1854 nobody gave a shit, then almost 70 years later, Einstein used it to explain the topology and mechanics of spacetime and his field equations. Equations that gifted us almost 60% of our progress as a society, from nuclear to computer transistors to space exploration, etc. Similarly, Hopf came up with Hopf fibration in the early to mid 1900s, then around 40 to 60 years later, Dr. Penrose used it to explain black hole mechanics , which is a remarkable achievement that he received the nobel prize for and might enable us to crack open the doors of an entirely new family of physics and a new chapter of space exploration. Never dismiss discoveries in mathematics, especially so early.

It's kind of funny how something like 20 major math problems have been solved recently and it had zero impact on the real world.
