@11thommo @cricket_badger I think putting in a finals system would help. Best way to replicate the intensity and pressure of a higher standard is to play a winner takes all game with something on the line.

@11thommo @cricket_badger Dilution of quality yes. Alex lees doesn’t learn or improve by facing Bradford and Bingleys 31yo dobbler up for a game. Less games does not necessarily improve anything. 1st test of an ashes is not worse than the fifth, because you still have the best players playing.

Getting rid of overseas players in the Championship is the daftest suggestion I have seen yet. A good overseas player raises the standard, inspires teammates and excites supporters.
Times Sport@TimesSport

Overseas players could be banned from playing in the County Championship as part of the reforms of domestic cricket. Several county directors of cricket want the championship to be for England-qualified players only #Echobox=1662034937" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">thetimes.co.uk/article/clubs-…

@11thommo @cricket_badger You’ve got 18 teams. Even if 2 overseas per team, you’ve got 160 spots for locals every round, heaps. You can’t tell me the 194th person picked is any good or creates comp. Aus has 66 total. The 194th player in Aus is a middling grade cricketer. That’s the diff in FC standard.

@WethHillbilly @cricket_badger Sort of my point really they can have them but don’t got to the point that if a young OS pro goes over he plays grade cricket all the SS sides have players playing against each other that could just about play for Aus when needed, CC could get there less games more intensity?

@11thommo @cricket_badger Aussies can have overseas in SS, just tend to not be good enough because their are fewer spots. Back in the 80’s had quite a few. Higher standard breeds better players. If a kid is good enough he’s still getting a go with 1-2 os in the team.

@cricket_badger Not sure about this Aussies don’t have overseas in Sheffield shield (granted play less games). If the aim is for less games then all for not relying on an overseas to do bulk of production get the best of locals playing against each other make it more intense.

After some mechanical and rabbit-related issues the track for tomorrow's @HuntersYLN match @WetherbyCC is all-but ready. I played cricket for many years & never appreciated the effort & planning that goes into preparing a single pitch. #cricket #Yorkshire #Wetherby

@amenners @eddiecowan Worst take ever. Upset the best performing batsman in the world, and our entire order to accomodate a 35 yo? Then you proceed to justify it by saying number 3 is the same as opening, where will Uzzie bat in the rejigged order? 3. Just let him open.

5th Test: @eddiecowan has backed up my suggestion that @marnus3cricket should open the batting allowing Head and Khawaja to fit in the middle order with Harris missing out. Like it? #ashes

No sport played on the local sporting ground since March. But let’s do some resurfacing work a few days out from the new cricket season, eight months later. As usual, the local council never disappoints in the stupidity stakes.
