@strangerous10 @MinhKular The AG wasn’t not available, she’s just not a senator. During Senate Estimates, ministers who sit in the house are represented by other ministers/assistant ministers who sit in the Senate eg Penny Wong represents Albo at PM&C estimates.

@MinhKular Fair question, it’s probably something Farrell was going to put on notice anyway & probably why Pocock left it at that. To be fair sometimes Senators ask questions to the wrong person bcoz the right person isn’t available. This was for the AG to answer and she wasn’t available.

David Pocock asks Don Farrell some serious questions about why the govt has not implemented an important recommendation from the #RobodebtRC. Farrell caught playing on his phone, not even paying attention.🙄 Pocock hasn’t the patience to try again & moves on. #Estimates

On May 18th, Somaliland celebrated the 34th anniversary of declaring independence. @Visegrad24 had a camera team onsite to record the event and will soon release the full footage. On the occasion, President Abdillahi sent recognition appeals to 130+ countries: “To the international community, I say: Now is the time to recognize the Republic of Somaliland (…) we are ready to play a pivotal role in regional security and in driving prosperity across the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea.” The president also extended his gratitude to countries that have developed friendly ties and ongoing cooperation with Somaliland, naming Ethiopia, the UAE, the UK, the U.S, Djibouti, Taiwan, Turkey and Kenya, among others. Somaliland hopes it will get recognized as s state during Trump’s presidency, counting on the usefulness of its port in Berbera to on the U.S. and the European to counter Houthi aggression in the Red Sea and to make the western powers less reliant on Djibouti where, were the Chinese Navy opened its only overseas naval base 8 years ago. A pier built there in 2019 is long enough to fit the Chinese Navy’s 2 new aircraft carriers in the future or 4 nuclear submarines. In 2018, the U.S. Department of Defense reported that pilots of the U.S. Air Force flying in the area had been subjected to laser attacks from the Chinese base.

@KosSamaras Where is Albanese captains call now? Appalling behaviour by the faceless faction of the Victorian right. It leaves a sour taste.Ed Husic is paying the price. This is the second time that Husic got demoted. If Albanese has any decency, he will override Marles. Ugly ALP games

Sam Rae is the future of that Labor caucus. This character assassination by Bernard Keane comes across as a diatribe. Perhaps Bernard should door knock half of Melton, like Sam managed over the last 6 months and ask this MP’s electorate what they think of him.
Rachel Withers@rachelrwithers

"Albanese, having ascended into the Labor pantheon with a remarkable victory, demonstrated his new authority by… sacking two well-regarded ministers at the behest of his single worst minister, Richard Marles, and replacing them with duds." @BernardKeane🎯 crikey.com.au/2025/05/09/mar…

Our latest RedBridge and @Accent_Research commissioned key seats track. This is wave 5. Labor is tracking at 54.5% a critical point given our key seat mix includes both Labor and Coalition-held electorates. The Coalition’s campaign has clearly hit a wall, with young Australians and diverse communities now strongly propping up Labor, where its two-party preferred support exceeds 60% in both groups. Notably, Labor is leading across every demographic except Boomers. 44% of diverse Australians we surveyed intend to vote Labor, making them the strongest consolidated voting bloc. This group also shows the lowest level of support for minor parties and independents compared to the broader electorate. This is significant in seats like Werriwa, across most of Melbourne’s outer suburbs and even in a seat like Bennelong. For me Labor’s massive lead amongst diverse communities is the real ominous sign for the Coalition given the two swing states of NSW and Victoria are the most diverse. dailytelegraph.com.au/news/national/…

@NYTankies @MagpieMetalcore Australian isn’t an ethnicity - it’s a national identity. He serves in the ADF, that’s more than most can say.

@NatedawgO7 @KosSamaras If you’re not careful and just keep dropping new policies without thought or sequencing - your “story” becomes incoherent and you end up constantly on the back foot trying to make things up as you go under intense scrutiny from the press.

Just like our poll yesterday, be it within key electorates, this more broader nation wide Newspoll illustrates the same trend. Labor’s primary vote is much better than 2022, whilst the Coalition’s primary vote has dropped to 35%. They need over 40% to even get close to 70 seats at the moment.

Labor has done a dirty deal with the Liberals to not preference the Greens in Macnamara. This now risks the Liberals winning the seat, and bringing Dutton one step closer to the Lodge. Labor voters will be furious they are helping Dutton with preferences.

He didn't. If you did a bit of research as a extinguished academic who is a fellow at @Deakin, you could have worked that out yourself. Firstly it was leased for 99 years. It was signed at state-level and could not be stopped due to absence of power at federal-level. Federal law and the FAS scheme corrected this, 2018 and 2020. Agreement has exit clauses with due cause. Perhaps shooting live in front of Australia was not that smart. As power exists at federal-level it can now be addressed. #auspol

@NoAlbo25 @Benschutz22 @GhostWhoVotes Still a majority mate, 55-45 ALP would be an absolute blowout. You have to go back to the mid-late 70s to find the last time a party won 55 TPP. Rudd got 53 in 2007 and that was a massive win.

@dunxcorp @lesstenny Except Mexico didn’t get a deal on steel and aluminium, no one did - they just avoided the blanket 25% tariff on everything until April. Australia hasn’t faced such a threat (yet).

As the Ambassador responsible for 10 UN member states, more than any other Ukrainian Ambassador, I’m pleased that 93 countries supported the UN resolution on advancing a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in Ukraine. A heartfelt thank you to Australia 🇦🇺, New Zealand 🇳🇿, Fiji 🇫🇯, and Tonga 🇹🇴 for co-sponsoring, and to Nauru 🇳🇷, Samoa 🇼🇸, Solomon Islands 🇸🇧, and Vanuatu 🇻🇺 for voting in favor. Kiribati 🇰🇮 and Tuvalu 🇹🇻 abstained. I’m especially grateful to Australia, New Zealand, European states, and the EU for their unwavering advocacy in the Pacific.

Trump admitted he didn’t do best job of people selection because it was his first time in the role and so was listening to others too often in the selection process nothing wrong with that and at least he had introspection to say he will be better in that department now with experience

@SWatMR11 @danae_bosler Labor raised royalties on sky high resources prices to raise more money and the budget was even in surplus, sounds like they found a way to pay for their plans. LNP of course backed the resources council all the way.

@VibeoGaemPapa @dbiibd @mehdirhasan That polling is only on calling for a ceasefire - which I understand the current administration supports… seems like an odd poll to reference. There is no situation where Kamala loses 48% of Democratic voters - if you believe that is possible I have a bridge to sell you.

@VibeoGaemPapa @dbiibd @mehdirhasan Don’t know if you noticed - I’m Australian. From my perspective: I don’t find it surprising that a candidate will “buddy up” with people who support her, can’t imagine she feels obligated to reach out to people who call her a genocide supporter. I don’t see it costing her tbh.

@WheelmanHD @dbiibd @mehdirhasan I'm not surprised you don't want to that rabbit hole, it's an issue that is going to utterly tank your candidate. Still, doesn't change the fact that she is will to buddy up with Republicans, but will completely snub members of her own party.
