I ran for LP Chair as an outsider advocating truly radical changes in approach. I led the first ballot, was second on the second ballot and lost 53-45 on the third. The two insider candidates opposed to radical change combined forces to beat me. Not a big surprise. The status quo won. I want to thank all the people who supported me or donated money, many of whom I did not know or knew only slightly. It put off many projects to do this. It was worth the risk for a possible big result. I will now pick up those projects where I left off.

The Libertarian Party and its events are not serious. It’s performative cosplay. Many do it for ego or to fill a void or because it’s hard to face that making real change is so hard. Some think it’s more pragmatic to just side with the Republicans. I used to think so — but it’s become clear that the mainstream / core GOP people hate liberty, Constitutionalism and real conservatism. They’ve become an increasingly dumb party of nationalists who focus on the cult of personality. Neither solution works for liberty minded people and small L libertarians. So how to make change with only 3% of the voter base? Seems the best method is to advocate, educate and act as a spoiler from the outside to make it so the most statist Republicans and Dems can’t win. Move the needle. Not sure what else we can do.

All this hate on the Right directed at Libertarian @RepThomasMassie affirms that I really am politically homeless. I quit the Republican Party a couple of years ago in protest of its big spending, anti-liberty trajectory. I could never vote for a Democrat, but I also cannot be part of an organization that openly attacks someone like Massie. The party has turned into a fairly small tent group unfortunately. New York is proposing rules that would criminalize the distribution of certain digital files (like the one below) related to firearm manufacturing. The state wants to treat the sharing of information like it’s the same as committing a crime. Here are some of the laws proposed: Criminalization of Code: It is now a felony to intentionally sell, distribute, or possess digital instructions (such as CAD files) to manufacture firearms or their major components without a license. Manufacturer Requirements: 3D printer manufacturers must now equip machines sold in New York with blocking technology or firmware that uses detection algorithms to scan files and refuse to print firearm-related objects. Background Checks: Proposed legislation also includes requiring criminal history background checks for the purchase of 3D printers capable of creating firearms. Enhanced Penalties: Manufacturing a "ghost gun," pistol converter (Glock switch), or major firearm component is now classified as a Class D felony. Code is speech. 3d printer go brrrrrrrr.
