STATEMENT ON @HUSTLEYAKO INITIATIVE'S POSITION ON SOCIO-ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT We feel it prudent to respond to sentiments from quarters against the empowerment of Career Professionals, Entrepreneurs and Business People who are at the bottom of the economic pyramid.

@HustleYako We want everyone to earn. We want everyone to thrive - be it on the golden-plated desks or in the dusty marketplace. Leadership is about fixing the economy.

@HustleYako Leadership is about empathy. Leadership is about providing solutions for all, not just the 'chosen few.' Kenya desperately needs a new crop of leaders who will change the narrative. Kenya needs a new crop of leaders who will change policy and reset government priorities.

@HustleYako We can't all be fortune 500 company CEOs either. However, we can all thrive in whatever we choose to do and we can all make money, feed our families and get ahead, regardless of our station in life.

@HustleYako For the record, the #HustleYako Development Agenda & Youth Movement has never been & will never be elitist. Those side-chatting us saying we can't fit in car wash business or fruit vending in market also need to know that we can't all sit in carpeted offices with glass ceilings.

@HustleYako Young people and the business community at large just need an enabling environment to trade. The truth is that this government has intentionally sabotaged the economy via state capture, draconian policies and commercial suppression.

@HustleYako We stand with those who are persevering all forms of agony every single day as they struggle to make ends meet.

@HustleYako For the longest time, government has neglected the informal sector. This oversight needs to be corrected. This sector needs to be prioritized. Note, majority of Kenyans are in the informal sector not by choice, but to make ends meet. There are no jobs. Businesses have collapsed.

@HustleYako Every hustle matters. Every Career, Business or Entrepreneurial Venture needs to be respected. Be it being an IT Firm CEO or a Hustler selling fruits - every hustle matters! We will not desist from empowering those who are in the blue-collar jobs to better sustain themselves.

@HustleYako Equitable distribution of resources for us means giving everyone a chance to make it in life and putting everyone in a position to win.

@HustleYako The status quo is such that most Kenyans are living below a dollar a day (100 bob per day i.e. less than 3k per month). The status quo is that a very few number are minting millions.

@HustleYako However, an empowered man or woman is an independent mind, a thinker and a choice maker.

@HustleYako Folks, poverty has been used by those who govern as a tool to politically suppress Kenyan citizens. The rationale is that people who are poor are easily manipulated by desperate exchange of coin accompanied by propaganda.

@HustleYako Is there a better way than to change their circumstances, amplify their plight and force gate-keepers to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive?

@HustleYako Many opponents of this timely intervention are claiming that there is no real empowerment. Is there a better way to empower someone than to put actual income in their hands? Is there a better way to empower someone than to buy their goods or services?
