@joequant @JonesGashner @RealScottRitter Thaad being completely destroyed doesn’t affect operations AT ALL. Iran, China, Russia, etc don’t have Thaad or equivalent. So if lack of Thaad implies operationally useless bases, that means basically all bases in the world are operationally useless.

What is remarkable about the Iranian war is that the Trump and the US/Israeli forces on day one promised a short war. Usually in this type of war, one side is able to put in overwhelming military force and the other side just extends the war for as long as possible.

@joequant @JonesGashner @RealScottRitter Yes, the only things I’ve seen showing complete destruction of bases — something you claimed — are either AI slop, or reused photos from unrelated battles long ago. I’m still waiting to see the Chinese satellite imagery that you claimed shows completely destroyed bases.

@joequant @JonesGashner @RealScottRitter That imagery shows a thaad system was partially damaged during the early days of the war. Specially the radar components. It does not show the entire base destroyed, which is what you claimed Chinese satellite imagery shows. Thaad being destroyed reduces defenses, not operations

@joequant @JonesGashner @RealScottRitter I’m very tuned in to both the news and propaganda about this war. There’s nothing credible showing destroyed US bases. The propaganda efforts with doctored imagery are really bad. I’m just trying to confirm what you saw.

@ngzeonhou @joequant Trump is not a smart military strategist. But he does have people for that. Objectively, this war has gone extremely well. You have to suspend all reality to qualify it as going badly.

Trump is so far out of his depth that even he can’t lie his way out of this one. His stupidity and hubris has led him down a path from which there is now no return. Take a listen to this clip featuring Lawrence Wilkerson, retired US Army Colonel and former Chief of Staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell. Wilkerson has been around the block a few times and has some bitter experience of these kinds of misadventures. The obvious question in this moment is what represents a road too far? Well I’m afraid Trump is on it wearing a new pair of his golden sneakers, he’s opened up a Pandora’s box and it’s full of geopolitical vipers. In his tiny little mind he’s said to himself, ‘I have the biggest most powerful army on the planet and Iran will comply or die,’ without a thought to the consequences. He saw opportunity for self-enrichment and bet his presidency and the Republican Party’s future on it. He always likes to say ‘in the good ole days’ when referring to wanting to make America great. In his mind, segregation and women knowing their place is his kind of golden age in which old grey white men set the rules and everyone falls into line. Times have changed, the age of gunboat diplomacy are dead I’m afraid. The very nature of war has changed. The writing has been on the wall since the Vietnam war, A conflict in which for the first time at scale, the US faced an insurgent enemy who melted into the population and then waged a relentless war of opportunity. A war where shock and awe plays no part, yet the U.S. appears to have learned nothing. Iran has 93 million people who have lived in a theocratic dictatorship for almost half a century. Trump decided to make this a holy war because he felt it was easier to sell. In his eyes, everybody hates Muslims right?. In his mind, America is now a reborn white Christian nation ready to fight a holy crusade against the evil Islamists. Mixing political power and religion has long been the holy grail of Western dictators. They believe they are doing the Lord’s work by eradicating the people that don’t worship their God. This religious fervour blinds the perpetrator to the truth that war rarely delivers the power those prosecuting it seek. Trump has followed Putin’s ‘Special Military Operation’ roadmap almost to the letter, but without the ground forces. He made the same assumption that victory could be had in weeks. As a result, he’s facing the same challenges Putin faced, a population that will never give up, they are forced to adapt to meet the challenges from a traditional large military adversary. Iran could never resist the overwhelming power of the US Air Force. They knew that, so while Trump brags about destroying air defences and the Iranian Navy, all indications to an idiot like Trump that he’s winning. The truth is, there was no real intention from Iran to fight this war on America’s terms. The Iranian leadership knows this is midterms year, Trump is spending a billion dollars a day to prosecute a war. They believe they can stretch out as long as is required. In their minds, they just have to wait him out. They don’t care how many civilians get killed because every civilian and child death is not only a recruitment Ad for the upcoming insurgency, it also paints the US as a monster on the world stage. Iran has a stock of millions of sacrificial lambs to expend on a war of attrition. They know this can’t be won from the air, and the US for all its power and might don’t have enough troops to win a war on the ground. The country is massive, the terrain is challenging and the Iranians are fighting in their own backyard. I have said it many times, the US has never won a war on its own EVER. Yet Trump’s malignant narcissism leads him to believe it will be different for him. He’s wrong, his dreams of empire are about to go up in flames and he’s going to take the American economy with him. It’s the definition of insanity. 🎥 TikTok - vm.tiktok.com/ZNRHhUDuA/

This is not a new military strategy. It is a very old one. Look up every colonial war in the last several hundred years. Heck. Just look up the American Revolution. The British managed to hold all of the major American cities, attacked the capital, and won most battles.
Legal Phil@Legal_Fil

I'm fascinated by the emerging consensus that having your navy and air force destroyed, your leadership killed off, and having lost complete control of your air space is actually evidence that one is winning. Crazy that we are only now discovering this new military strategy.

@joequant @JonesGashner No they don’t. Satellite imagery confirms some bruises to us bases, everything remains operational. You’ve fallen victim to so much Chinese state propaganda, you are probably looking at reused imagery from other places or AI generated images. But post it. Let take a look.

@Why__Knot @JonesGashner Chinese satellite images tell a different story. So tell me how is the 5th fleet base in Bahrain operational if the US navy cant cross Hormuz. The US actually doesn't have much redundancy.

@joequant @JonesGashner Iranian militias target the Iranian regime dumdum. The pieces of the IRGC that still operate try to target just about anything these days, including bases. They haven’t been effective at hitting much since the early days of the war.

@joequant @JonesGashner All of the us bases in the Middle East are functional and continue to operate. Central command is in Qatar. Air from jordan and Iraq. Part of a radar was damaged in Qatar. US has redundancy for all systems. Precisely in case of attacks. You are delusional.

@Why__Knot @JonesGashner The latest demand by Iran is Persian Gulf. The US may be able to keep a base in Jordan. The base in Bahrain is non functional, and Kuwait and Qatar are not allowing the US to use bases for air operation. The big radar in Qatar was blown up very early.

@joequant @JonesGashner You said us would be out of the Middle East, not Persian gulf. US uses Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan (332nd Air) for air strikes, Al Udeid Air Basein Qatar for command, Ali Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait. Also Bahrain for naval support.

@joequant @JonesGashner You stated 2 wks ago that the US military would be completely out of the Middle East within 3-4 days. Right now you stated that none of the US bases in the ME are operational. Despite the fact the US missions are launched from US bases hourly. You say provably false things.

@joequant @JonesGashner Hormuz has remained open throughout. Volumes are down because most ship owners expect Iran to be finished off soon.

@JonesGashner @Why__Knot Iran is winning because the missiles are still falling and the strait of Hormuz is closed, and there is no obvious prospect of opening up between now and the midterms.
