As someone who didn’t do it right, who looks back on years marked by brokenness, wrong turns, and the ache of knowing I wandered far from God’s design for life, love, and family, I find myself looking at Erika and Charlie and longing for what they had. And I cry for her loss. I cry because grief is already unbearable without strangers turning it into a spectacle. I want to scream at the people attacking her: please stop. You are hurting her. Please stop. I want to fight for a woman I have never met. I cry for a woman I have never met. My heart breaks for a woman I have never met. The lies, the accusations, the cruelty… it is vicious. It is inhumane. And I find myself asking God, why? Why did You take him home from her? Why is she being forced to endure such vile attacks while carrying unimaginable grief? And then I think of Job. I have always marveled at Job. His suffering. His losses. The way the adversary tried to destroy him through pain, confusion, accusation, and despair. And yet God never abandoned him in it. Erika will not get Charlie back this side of heaven. That truth alone is devastating. But I believe with all my heart that God still redeems the years the locusts have eaten. I believe He is still able to bring beauty from ashes. I believe He will take what these vile creatures meant for evil and somehow, through His mercy, use it for good. The enemy delights in destruction, but God is still the Author of redemption. And maybe that is why this hurts so deeply to watch. Because love like that reminds us of what is sacred. What is possible. What God intended from the beginning. So instead of tearing apart a grieving widow, maybe we should mourn with her. Maybe we should pray for her. Maybe we should remember that behind every headline and every rumor is a real human heart trying to survive unimaginable pain.
