Pretty simple read here as the Pistons threw single coverage at Brunson for the entire game, daring him into an isolation game and for him to score the ball. This led to 22 FG attempts and only 1 potential assist (with 0 assists) in 30 minutes of action in a blowout loss back at the beginning of January.
Even if the Pistons try something different on Brunson, which I find incredibly unlikely considering they blew out the Knicks by 31 points in that last meeting, there is still a really solid chance this hits, as against teams that rank top-15 in the NBA in Brunson’s dominant assist zone in the paint (where he gets 40% of his assists), he is under in 10/18 games. The Pistons are arguably the best interior defense in the NBA with Duren and Stewart manning the paint.
Josh Hart is questionable today, so while on the surface that may raise a red flag, realize he was also out for the previous meeting vs the Pistons. And for what it’s worth, I am anticipating he plays today in this matchup.
