@PrawnStarItsi Instead of crying about it online maybe actually take action and do something about it. There is nothing I hate more than people who complain but do nothing to fix the problem.

OTC deals are always behind closed door though and not something a retail investor can watch out for as its ... behind closed doors :P airdrops -> people always feel betrayed hidden tokenomics changes -> if they were hidden, then the average person probably didn't see them as they were ... hidden Only thing you could have watched out for is 90% held by the team I got zero, so all good here. But sucks for those who got hit.

Farming airdrops is the worst approach. Projects hate entitled farmers who only extract rewards and dump tokens instantly. And even Vitalik spoke out against it. Here’s how I stopped farming and started playing the long-term airdrop game: _______________________________________ Defining an airdrop farmer These are my key characteristics to identify an airdrop farmer: 1. Extractive mindset Focuses solely on maximising personal rewards rather than contributing to the ecosystem 2. Obsessed with airdrop rankings Relies heavily on metrics from platforms like Wenser and other airdrop leaderboards to track progress and anticipate rewards 3. Entitlement complex Expects instant rewards for minimal engagement and views every interaction as deserving of rewards 4. Short-term focus Sees airdrops as short-term profit opportunities, with little to no intention of staying engaged after the rewards are distributed 5. Dumps tokens instantly They have no intention of holding an airdrop and would dump immediately 6. Issues demands Frequently spams phrases like “wen token,” “no token, no community,” and “reward real users” in Discord, Twitter, or project chats 7. Complains about criteria Voices frustration and claims of unfairness when airdrop distribution criteria don’t align with their expectations 8. Doomsday threats Issues dramatic statements, such as “the project will fail without farmers,” or “you’ll have no community after this failed airdrop” 9. Scarcity mentality Believes each airdrop is their only shot at “making it” and sees the process as a once-in-a-lifetime chance to get rich 10. Unrealistic expectations Has high, often unreasonable expectations of every airdrop, assuming massive rewards regardless of the project’s tokenomics or user base (Influencers are at fault for selling hype with baseless claims too) 11. Emotional overreaction Overreacts to any comment that questions their contributions or suggests they are motivated purely by rewards 12. Surface-level participation Does the bare minimum to qualify for an airdrop, preferring to spam USDC/USDT swaps to generate volume instead of exploring the ecosystem 13. Mercenary mentality Withdraws funds from the project immediately after the airdrop and moves on to the next one 14. Disregard of the project's vision Shows little to no interest in the project’s goals or ecosystem value, focusing only on whether the project will release a token 15. Impatience with project timelines Gets frustrated when projects don’t TGE quickly and calls them out on social media in an attempt to pressure them 16. Complains about projects 'milking' us Believes projects are exploiting users and views every interaction through the lens of personal gain, asking “What am I getting out of this?” 17. Exploitative behaviour Actively seeks loopholes and exploitative tactics to maximise rewards and game the system There's a reason why many projects clamp down hard on farmers: They view farmers negatively as most are exploitative. There's a gap between these 2: ❍ Performative engagement (doing actions for rewards) ❍ Genuine participation (using a service for its inherent value) Projects have to balance the tension and identify meaningful contributions while filtering out purely speculative engagement. _______________________________________ Mindset is the core difference Yes, we are all in airdrops for the rewards, even me. But projects don't owe me anything. They have no obligation to reward me just because I interacted with the project. Instead of having the extractive mindset and asking "What can I take from this?": I'm adopting the contributive mindset and looking to give first before receiving later. The true value comes from giving while having little or no expectations. I am playing the long-term game with airdrops, and that's why I focus on my on-chain footprint. I know that I will be rewarded eventually, so I aim to show up every day and push interactions wherever possible. Am I truly an organic user if I expect a reward from my interactions? Maybe not. But I don't believe I am entitled to any reward. Projects get to decide how they want to distribute an airdrop. If I don't get a good airdrop, so be it. There's nothing to complain about or send death threats to their founders. I do it sometimes, but it's as a joke rather than any malicious intent. There are many opportunities out there and it's not the end of the world if one airdrop does poorly. I can be frustrated or disappointed at a 'bad' airdrop. But there's no point harping over it. I'm wasting too much of my mental energy that could have been used to push more interactions on other projects. We'll get burnt out if we keep farming and seeing no returns on our efforts. _______________________________________ Projects can be at fault too Farmers are not the only party that should be blamed, but let's look at the perspective from a project looking to tokenise. It's hard for projects to perform any airdrop distribution because it'll never be fair. No matter how hard they try, there will always be a party that falls through the cracks. Vitalik acknowledged this too, stating how it can be hard to conduct a distribution that's completely fair. Since every individual makes different contributions, a better approach could be to minimise inequality. But that's only if the project cares about the community. Some already have pre-existing deals with their VC investors, so they may allocate less to the airdrop. There will never be a perfect airdrop, but both parties (users and projects) have to find a balance: ❍ Users engage sincerely with the project ❍ Projects communicate transparently to avoid creating false expectations Some of you complain about how metrics that farmers contributed can make a project more appealing to investors. But these vanity metrics like transaction count can be misleading if they don't translate into user retention. Projects that only rely on speculation to acquire users will fail. Once the rewards dry up, all of the mercenary capital will be withdrawn. The real challenge is finding a way to reward genuine contributions and early adoption without incentivising purely extractive behaviour. Web3 is all about openness and collaboration. Projects that thrive tend to find ways to give value back to their communities, not just take from them. But at the same time, it's ideal for community members to have reasonable expectations. Some would assume an airdrop is coming even when the project never explicitly promised it. In this case, their disappointment may be more about unmet assumptions rather than a broken promise. Community-first doesn’t mean giving away free money all the time. Instead, it's about creating opportunities for mutual benefit. _______________________________________ My approach to airdrops I’m not perfect either. Greed has overwhelmed me and I get frustrated when an airdrop doesn’t meet my expectations. But the farming mindset has to stop. Here's the approach I'm adopting instead: I'm an airdrop hunter that plays the long-term game. I interact with a protocol consistently while managing my expectations of a reward. I can be disappointed with an airdrop, but I move on to the next opportunity without getting overly emotional. If I truly believe in a project, I am more likely to hold the token and use the product post-TGE. I know there are other opportunities and I believe my on-chain footprint will help me get future airdrops. _______________________________________ Projects dislike airdrop farmers, especially ones that are extractive and entitled. The mindset and approach to airdrops matter. Be an airdrop hunter instead.
